To want to call ofsted about this

Before I went on maternity leave last march I used to work in a day nursery, it had just opened when I started working there which is why I assumed a few things were not right. However six months in to the job I noted that things were still not running as they should be EG: parents were not being listened to in regards of dietary requirements and nap guidelines, children were not being signed in and out, one baby used to bring in food as she was very fussy the nursery nurse used to give it to other children saying she was no different to anyone else therfore she would not eat a thing for about 8 hours, there was never any activities, children would often be left with no supervision for minutes at a time and worst of all I found out just before I left that multiple members of staff had not been DBS checked! Whilst I was working there I noticed that one member of staff was particularly rough with the children so I reported her behaviour. After two months no action had been taken so I had to call LADO as her behavior was bordering on violent. All this was on camera so the owner and manager were well aware. I recently went back to visit and see of there had been any improvement for me to go back. As soon as I arrived at the nursery I realised the main door to enter the building had been left open. After buzzing the second door and getting no answer I looked through the window to see a room of around 20 children with no supervision! In the end all I had to let myself in (theres a sliding window next to the second door which was left open so this was very easy) to stop one child from urinating on the floor. When I entered there was four members of staff chatting in the office and someone else in the toilet. Their excuse was they didn't know the last girl had gone to the toilet. I just can't seem to let this go, not only are the parents paying 40+ pounds a day for this but someone could get hurt! Aibu to report it to ofsted? Are they the right people to contact? The manager had tried telling me that all nurseries are like this and it's normal I know from experience that this is not true. Thanks in advance

I am not sure if it should be Ofsted but you really must report your concerns, having spoken to the manager I would put all my concerns in writing, to the manager days, dates times etc and keep a copy, together with any evidence you have

CarrotVan · 19/03/2018 11:02

Of course you should call Ofsted. And no, not all nurseries are like this

AssassinatedBeauty · 19/03/2018 11:04

Absolutely contact Ofsted, this is so much below the accepted standards and those children are at risk.

DartmoorDoughnut · 19/03/2018 11:04

Wow that sounds awful!

Excited101 · 19/03/2018 11:05

Crikey! Yes! Get on to Ofsted!

I would be really grateful if someone reported this if they knew it was going in in my child’s nursery and I would definitely do the same if I became aware. In terms of who to contact, in Scotland at least it is he Care inspectorate who carry out inspections and provide reports on nurseries so I would contact them with the complaint. If it’s not them they’ll signpost you to correct place.

This is not what a normal nursery is like at all, I worked in a few in the last 10 years and even the 'worse' has been better than you described!
Please do report to ofsted.

Babymoosmum · 19/03/2018 12:12

Thanks everyone. I thought it was the best thing to do but just wasn't sure on who to contact. I'll call ASAP and I've got record of dates times etc so hopefully that will help x
