To think MN need to sort out the topics

Am I the only one who finds the filing system of topics on MN needlessly confusing? There are sooooooo many different topics. So many.

Do we need so many? Surely we could do a cull. AIBU?

I know I should do a count of how many there are, but it's late, I'm tired, grumpy and have PMT, so I can't do anything complicated.

@Kitchenbound thanks for explaining. That isn't what I thought it would be at all. I understand everyone's irritation with it being a category now.

Kitchenbound · 19/03/2018 09:36

AIBU as a category doesn't really bother me but the fact that people post absolutely everything under the sun in it annoys me. Doesn't necessarily stop me reading and commenting occasionally but its getting well out of control

iLoveABiccy · 19/03/2018 09:36

Haha OP sometimes I suffer with the same issue. But I love that there is a wide variety of choice, but AIBU is my favourite as it always has a wide variety within one section.. along with being pretty funny to read at times.

I'd like to see a separate sub section in Feminism chat for all the Trans stuff.

I miss when Feminism Chat had more diverse conversations going on.

real problem is everyone just using AIBU regardless - AIBU to ask how to bake a cake? Yes, use the Baking topic

Sounds simple? But it's not - MN sloppiness means you don't just to to Baking; you need to select between "baking" and "cakes and baked" unless of course it is a recipe-specific question which might fit in "food/recipes". All of which are grouped under a heading of "feed the world" which you would think would have threads about Oxfam and famine in South Sudan.

Plus there are no moderators, no enforcement, not even a community culture of using the correct topics, so it's easy to see why AIBU is a catch-all.
