Won on a gambling site but they won’t pay me?

  • posting for traffic sorry!

So now and again I put a little money on a gambling app, my really name is Terry, but different variations of this were all taken when I signed up, so I used something like ‘terrie2478’
I’ve now won a fairly large amount of money (to me) and a lady I spoke to today has said they may not have to pay it out due to this name, as it won’t match with my ID they have requested to see. I’m not panicking so much that she’s right and I won’t see this money but also if I ring and ask they might then say it (even if it wasn’t a reason before) I’ve been googling like crazy and from google I don’t think I’ll be seeing a penny Confused silly silly me!
Has anyone been in a situation like this or have any advice? Please

You say you spoke to 'a lady', who was she?
Sounds like a load of rubbish. If user name needs to match name on ID then they wouldn't allow numbers.

kaytee87 · 19/03/2018 17:21

And they'd insist on a surname

Crispbutty · 19/03/2018 17:48

Unless you have filled in the registration form incorrectly but even then if you were to email customer services they should be able to sort it.

Which site is it?

Frouby · 19/03/2018 17:52

I do matched betting and it's quite common to ask for id. Your id should match your registered details. And you need to show the card you registered with is registered to you.

Have you been onto live chat? See where the casino is based and see which regulator is in charge of them.

TheRoadLessRocky · 19/03/2018 18:02

I have loads of gambling logins (also a matched bettor) and live chat don't know arse from elbow half the time. You need your Id to match the real name and address you signed up with. They can ask for id verification, many do before withdrawal.

Username isn't at all relevant, as PPs have said, what if there are two John smiths etc?

The first thing to do is to try to withdraw - if they don't let you, they'll request verification. You'll have to send a screenshot of something like your driving licence and probably the bank card you deposited with. You black out the first 12 numbers of your card, and the CVV on the back.

JauntyAngle · 19/03/2018 18:29

Will that is ridiculous - a username is just that, it has no bearing on your actual name or identity.

Which site is this?

noplease · 19/03/2018 19:34

If it's just your username that won't matter, that's just used to log in etc. As long as you've used your real name and address when filling in the rest of your details you should be ok.

BrendasUmbrella · 19/03/2018 20:30

Well my user name is a car model and a piece of fruit. If usernames must contain correctly spelled real names they should make that crystal clear in the t&cs.

Rachie1973 · 19/03/2018 20:36

notapizzaeater
Does anyone use there real names as a user name

Noooooooo. Most reputable sites ask you not to use your real name as a username!

Eatalot · 19/03/2018 20:36

Erm the very point of a username is that is keeps you anonymous. They are having you on if they say this is the reason bet the lady gets a bonus for not paying out. I guess there are plenty of people who would fall for this scam. If your name is correct on account then they can get fucked.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 19/03/2018 20:41

Who is this lady? From the way you have written it I assume she doesn't work for the company. Sounds like she is talking a load of BS.

WellThisIsShit · 19/03/2018 20:49

Sounds v v dodge to me

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 19/03/2018 20:53

I don't think the issue is going to be your username. As everyone said; that's supposed to be unique and not your real name.

I suspect it's either that the details you gave when registering need to match your ID or that you've got more than one account with that company. They're usually the top reasons; along with abusing promotions.

goldenbulldog · 19/03/2018 21:32

this is unfair make a fuss they should be paying you nobody uses their real name as a user name
