My husband says I am too sensitive

So my husband regularly makes comments that he knows annoy me...if I say something about someone being crazy for example, he replies with 'that's women for you, you are all crazy' and then laughs. I have repeatedly told him that his generalisations offend me, and are stupid. In the last week this has happened at least once a day. He laughs when I get angry and he says that's why he says it, because it winds me up. When I tell him I am being serious and he needs to stop, he tells me that I am being too sensitive. We have just had another one of these instances and I shouted at him and he laughed. I cannot get him to see how bloody annoying and disrespectful he is being! Am I being unreasonable or is he? I would never keep saying something to him that upset him regardless of the topic. I am not asking him to be a feminist like me, just to be respectful of the fact I am...?

Sorry if this comes across as a huge rant, I am just so frustrated!!!

Blackmailing him when you ask him to stop deliberately trying to upset you ? What an arse.
Ask him if he'd like it if you poked him in the eye every ten minutes and then said he was blackmailing you if he asked you to stop.

He's an emotionally abusive fuckwit.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 18/03/2018 13:21

It's a way of getting into your head. He knows by saying stupid stuff he gets your undivided attention. Does he secretly feel threatened or got at by your views?

BettyBaggins · 18/03/2018 13:40

Anyone ever tells me I am being too sensitive I stamp on their foot! I'll give them bloody sensitive.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/03/2018 13:54

Your partner is an abusive asshole. He ENJOYS making you upset. Let that sink in. Get rid of this twat.

ChodeofChodeHall · 18/03/2018 13:57

He sounds like an arsehole who has no respect for you.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 18/03/2018 14:02

He sounds like a mysoginist. I don’t say that very often btw, but this one really sounds like he dislikes women to me.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/03/2018 14:08

Tell him that the only reason men say things like that is because they are insecure in their masculinity - real men don’t need to say ridiculous shit like that. Keep on saying it to him even when it upsets him. Hope he finally gets the message.

Lethaldrizzle · 18/03/2018 14:34

If no one is laughing then it's not a joke. The old 'sensitivity' accusation is just the excuse of abusive idiots the world over.

Lizzie48 · 18/03/2018 15:19

It's only a 'joke' if you're both laughing and winding each other up. Then it's fun; my DH has a great sense of human and we watch comedies together. And yes, he pulls my leg sometimes. But it only works because we both like it. On the occasions when he's annoyed me he's apologised.

It doesn't sound as if your DH cares at all that he's upset you, he just blames you for spoiling his fun. Has he always been like this or has he changed? Or is it the case that it was funny in small doses and he's just upped the ante recently?

epiphanytime · 18/03/2018 16:08

I think he has upped the ante recently...and it just feels constant...I think I lashed out the way I did because I have reached the end of my tether!!

Sorry, but he really does sound like a prat.

JoJoSM2 · 18/03/2018 17:52

He sounds horrible. I had a bf like that - got dumped pretty swiftly. Nasty, nasty type.

Giraffey1 · 18/03/2018 17:55

Can you try completely ignoring him every time he does this to see if it makes him stop? It might be that he thinks it is funny getting a rise out of you and will stop if he sees it isn’t working.

However, I do think he is not being very kind - why is he persisting in doing something when he knows it upsets you? It doesn’t seem a very respectful way to treat you.

Terfinater · 18/03/2018 18:01

Personally the next time he said something like that he'd be on the sofa.

The constant drip about how shit women are would have me hating him. I don't think he's joking at all.

VanGoghsLeftEar · 18/03/2018 18:03

My husband does that. It's white noise. He gets annoyed when I don't react.

Ohyesiam · 18/03/2018 18:06

Why did you marry him. Did he change or did you not notice what he was like before?

NewYearNewMe18 · 18/03/2018 18:09

Run this one by me again op - I cant quite grasp this -

if I say something about someone being crazy so your medically qualified to give that robust diagnosis? and I am not asking him to be a feminist like me I'm really not correlating the fact its ok for you to call people crazy and this makes you a feminist. I may be reading your post way too literally.

Lizzie48 · 18/03/2018 18:23

My friend's DH constantly goes on about how shit women drivers are. Now that really annoys me. Hmm
