I look like a starved cow

RibCageEngage · 18/03/2018 09:30

I have food issues, no appetite, IBS - I tried to be healthy and made sure to increase fibre to 25g a day - was shitting for England and started to really bloat up. I felt fat and frumpy - now I have an injury so can't exercise meaning my appetite is even worse so I've cut out the healthy stuff and basically just eating what I fancy.

Yesterday this was a cereal bar for breakfast, two custard creams for lunch and a burger and chips for tea (homemade). Then a bottle of wine and half an aero bar (the big bars).

This morning I look bloody awful. The bloating has gone and I look really thin and starved. I'm 5ft 10in and this morning weigh 9st 12lbs. My massive saggy boobs look even more out of proportion now and I resemble a poorly cow.

AIBU to get a boob reduction so I at least look in proportion? Im currently a 32EE - doesn't sound big but imagine it on a woman that looks a bit like skeletor ...

Maybe you need to look at upping your fruit and veg. If I don't want enough "good stuff" I feel awful.

thirstyformore · 18/03/2018 09:44

eat enough, not want

RibCageEngage · 18/03/2018 09:45

I did that and it made me bloated and flared up my ibs

Could you handle smoothies? I feel terrible if I eat crap for a few days, I remember being desperate for fresh veg whilst road tripping in à America. Pointless telling you to sort this out, you know your diet is ruddy awful. A whole bottle of wine?!

iammargesimpson · 18/03/2018 09:49

I don't think a boob reduction is what you need! Can you go to a dietician who can help with your diet, what you had yesterday has v little nutritional value. Two custard creams for lunch?

yawning801 · 18/03/2018 09:49

I get this sometimes, but I have no food issues or IBS as far as I know. I basically eat crap all day because my doctor has told me to gain weight. His exact words were "For some people, it works to just eat whatever you want, whenever you want." So I've been doing that for the past year - zilch weight gain. I bloat easily too (last night I looked pregnant). So I'm having a similar problem and watching with interest.

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 18/03/2018 09:51

There's a diet for ibs called Fodmap. I think you feel crap because you've drunk a bottle of wine last night. Your body is crying out for nutrition. Stop alcohol and go to your doctor to find out what you can do to feel better. They should be able to refer you to a dietitian because of your ibs. Get some multivitamins. You're not a cow. Thanks

FanofFung · 18/03/2018 09:55

I'm a nutritionist and I recommend you make an appointment with a local nutritionist. High fibre is not for everyone, some people do really well on low veg diet as long as they're meat eaters and able to get the nutrients that way.

You probably have a gut flora imbalance. A nutritionist will be able to help you.

Cornettoninja · 18/03/2018 09:55

I think you need a dietician review and/or gastroenterologist review given your weight loss.

There are things that can help massively but you need to elbow your way in on the NHS or, if you have the cash, stump up for private. That might be a better investment overall than a boob job. Especially if you're thinking along the lines of implants since they'll require further investment when they need replacing as I understand there's a shelf life (could be wrong on that point).

Cornettoninja · 18/03/2018 09:57

Apologies - speed reading is a curse! I see you said reduction not enhancements

alligatortoss · 18/03/2018 09:57

I’m sat here 5 days post op from a breast reduction Smile very happy with mine

Guavaf1sh · 18/03/2018 10:01

Find a dietician not a nutritionist. There is a marvellous Dara O’brien routine about the difference between the two

FanofFung · 18/03/2018 10:05

Dieticians are required to, by law, treat you with what they learned in college, despite the science being 20 year behind....

Fireandflames666 · 18/03/2018 10:31

I feel your pain. I have ibs as well and i cant eat vegetables, beans, lentils, wholemeal bread or any of the stuff that's considered "healthy". I'm 5ft 10 also and 10st, I'm skinny but i look pregnant often with how much i bloat. I'm sorry you're suffering from this, the only advice i can offer is try and eat little and often.

kateandme · 18/03/2018 10:32

for everyone saying see a dietician.jave you all had personal experience that they:do the right thing?help?are right for you? I only ask because all the ones we've seen turned out awful advice and only made the conditions and weight/food worse.
it was like they just followed the formula they are taught in training ticked boxes etc.

Faintlinesquints · 18/03/2018 10:37

I can empathise, I have digestive issues and also on medication which makes me sick. I can only stomach certain things and they're certainly not the healthiest option. A high fibre diet doesn't work for me and makes things worse.

I'm tall and really underweight too, and if one more person tells me I should try and beef up I might scream!
The loose skin gets to me most of all, I have no boobs so I can't imagine how you feel there, but getting a reduction is a big surgery and being unhealthy now can lead to complications and longer recovery time.

Could you see a dietician as pp's have suggested? Have you tried food supplements to try and get some nutrition, do you take any vitamins? I find that clear soups and smoothies are more palatable as I can drink them through a straw and take my time. I hope you find something that works for you.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 18/03/2018 10:39

Haven't you posted about this before? (many times)

Plantlover · 18/03/2018 10:42

Fanofang

How does that work? Most professions have training courses that update professional knowledge. If you worked in IT you would have to move with the changes in technology?

Singlebutmarried · 18/03/2018 10:50

I’m reading ‘the clever guts diet’ as I’ve got IBD and though I usually shy away from trying to ease symptoms with my diet, this book is making some sense.

Maybe give it a read and see what you think.

Lucked · 18/03/2018 10:56

I am pretty sure dieticians who work for the nhs would have to prove some continuing professional development like everyone else in the NHS.

The boobs are not the issue, what you think you look like is the least concerning thing from your OP and it shows how far your head is out of whack.

OP if you are bloated it is probably because you are drinking your calories. Depending on what exactly was in your homemade burger and chips you might have only have eaten around 1200 calories yesterday.

Do you have a problem with alcohol? I haven’t read your other posts but that what struck me in your post. Most people finds that amount of wine will play havoc on their guts so not s good idea for someone with IBS

FODMAP was advised up thread and you should read up in it. In the meantime cut out all onions, garlic and alcohol. There are long lists of foods which are suitable available on line. Also are you sitting down to these meals? Do you sit down to a plate with a cereal bar or two biscuits on it?

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 18/03/2018 10:58

Sorry you are feeling low.

Stating the obvious though, a bottle of wine is going to make you look and feel rough the next day whatever your bowel issues. Can you ditch the booze as a first step?

Beetlejizz · 18/03/2018 11:00

There is a middle ground between not eating loads of fruit and veg and replacing meals with custard creams and cereal bars. There are things that aren't vegetables or processed shit. And of course you look awful this morning if you're no longer in the first flush of youth and had a bottle of wine last night! So does everyone over what, 23?

Have you actually had any medical input on your condition?

CurbsideProphet · 18/03/2018 11:03

I have IBS and can't eat high fibre. I've done high fibre, exclusion diet, and FODMAP with dietitians.

Everything in moderation. You do really need to eat more than a cereal bar and 2 biscuits for most of the day.

Goldmonday · 18/03/2018 11:07

It sucks, but having IBS does sometimes mean you can't eat fruit or vegetables.

I find for me that sometimes cooked vegetables don't flare me up too bad. I cannot tolerate any sort of salad, lettuce is the absolute worst.

I would recommend you see a nutritionist, but trying to eat fruit and vegetables for the sake of it is not the answer as it just makes you sick.
