Would social services really say this?

My friend told me that her social worker advised her to stop paying her rent and to get herself evicted to get a council house because she is struggling to pay her rent. She's known for being very loose with the truth, would a social worker really advise that?

Thank you for all the replies. I will pass on the information, I think it's a terrible idea as she isn't actually struggling to pay the rent or that's how it appears anyway. She told me she has told the sw that because she is stressed and that was the excuse for why. I don't condone her behaviour at all, she just needs support in order to grow up a bit and act like a responsible adult rather than how she has been. I feel bad saying it, I just want what is best for the her and the kids and this notion isn't it, but I guess that's just my opinion

I agree with you Op, if she can afford to meet the shortfall in rent after her housing benefit then she needs to prioritise paying that. It would be frankly delusional to expect to be moved into a nice council house in the foreseeable future after eviction.
The whole procedure of eviction is traumatic, particularly for her children who will be forced to live in a temporary accommodation or separated Sad

Something may have got lost in translation here. Either she's misinterpreted the social worker's advice or your friend has misled the sw? Confused
Eviction really is a last resort for those finding it impossible to pay their rent.
