Coke or Pepsi in alcholic beverage

tulipsforeveryone · 17/03/2018 16:33

I was offered coke and southern comfort and said yes.
When it was served to me, it was pepsi.

I said thank you but then declined the drink.

Is this rude? I just can't drink spirits with pepsi...must be coke lol

I can't stand coke but am addicted to Pepsi max.
If with alcohol either will do - especially with a double measure I personally can't really tell a huge difference!

BreconBeBuggered · 17/03/2018 23:41

I prefer Pepsi but nobody really asks for a rum and Pepsi, do they? I can't even contemplate the notion of Southern Comfort with cola.

Eliza9917 · 17/03/2018 23:42

No one calls Coke 'cola'. If I overheard that while out, yes, I would judge. And not in a kind way.

ObiJuanKenobi · 17/03/2018 23:50

@BreconBeBuggered me too! Southern comfort should never go with 'cola', it belongs with an ice cold lemonade!

Jammydodger81 · 18/03/2018 00:02

Me too Obi, I love Southern Comfort and lemonade.

Rottweilers · 18/03/2018 00:02

Coke and southern comfort is an abomination in itself. SC and lemonade is the way forward. Plus YABU based on the fact that Pepsi max is my favourite and Coke can piss right off.

Notlabeled · 18/03/2018 00:09

Coke snobs. Lidl Freeway Cola all the way in this house.

Bagel88 · 18/03/2018 08:29

IMHO it has to be Coca cola.
Jack and Pepsi doesn't sound right to me??

Eolian · 18/03/2018 08:33

I can't believe how fussy some people are. Yes they taste a bit different, but they are essentially the same thing. Like people who love one brand of ketchup but claim not to be able to stand a different one. It's a bit precious and childish tbh.

steff13 · 18/03/2018 08:41

Coke and Pepsi taste different. How is it precious and childish to have a taste preference?

Cornettoninja · 18/03/2018 08:51

It does feel like coke have started employing cyber shills Grin

Fwiw as a mixer it doesn't really bother me despite never choosing Pepsi as a drink on its own.

Maybe try doubles to dilute the Pepsi!

Cornettoninja · 18/03/2018 08:53

But they do taste different. So do ketchups. None of these things are the exact same recipes are they?

Some people just have sophisticated palates Wink

Thesmallthings · 18/03/2018 09:12

Just to complicate matters more in some states all fizzy drinks are called coke.

Friend- want a coke
You- yeah what flavours do you have
Friend cola. Pepsi tango..sprite...
That is madness

x2boys · 18/03/2018 09:27

I wouldnt mind Pepsi or coke but supermarkets own brand cola is vile .

Eolian · 18/03/2018 09:31

Yes, they taste a bit different. Every time you have lasagne or risotto or something at a different restaurant it will taste different because it's made to a different recipe. But only fussy children throw their toys out of the pram because it's not exactly identical to how it tastes at home! The whole idea that it's only either exactly as you like it or disgusting is ridiculous, and definitely not indicative of a sophisticated palate!

DollyMcDolly · 18/03/2018 09:35

Pepsi for me. Coke is rank

happymummy12345 · 18/03/2018 09:40

In a pub they are meant to ask if Pepsi is okay. Though I happily drink both both on their own and in alcoholic drinks, so wouldn't bother me at all.

GeekyBlinders · 18/03/2018 10:18

I always feel so sorry for people like Eolian. It must be so sad to have really poor tastebuds. Wink

Eolian · 18/03/2018 13:04

Grin My tastebuds are fine thanks. That's probably why I don't drink crap like coke (or pepsi - very slightly different, but equally crap). Mine's a pint of real ale or a cup of tea, thanks. And I like lots of different ones, rather than liking just one and thinking the others are all rank.

GeekyBlinders · 18/03/2018 20:14

But presumably you have a favourite? Or some things you dislike? Is it only previous and childish to have preferences if you're taking about someone else?

FWIW, I prefer Coke but think Pepsi is ok.

Eolian · 18/03/2018 21:32

I didn't say it was childish to have preferences! I just find it a bit childish to reject one product that tastes almost exactly the same as another just because it's not 'your' brand.
With beer, some taste very similar, some wildly different. I have my favourites and ones I'm a bit 'meh' about. However, I've never tasted a real ale that I thought was rank or disgusting, because they are all beer and beer tastes good! Exactly the same with tea actually.

I just can't imagine tasting two beers that taste as similar to each other as Pepsi and Coke and thinking that one is delicious and one disgusting! I liked cola as a child, and had a mild preference for Coke over Pepsi, but certainly not enough to make a fuss about or to really care which one I got.

HoHoHoHo · 18/03/2018 21:42

When I was doing my gcses my teacher did a blind taste test with Pepsi and cola to prove that marketing could make people believe that they could taste the difference between them when actually they can't. Shockingly no one could identify whether or not they were drinking Pepsi or cola any more than they could by chance.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/03/2018 21:48

Pepsi tastes like floor wax. Disgusting.

Allabitmuchisntit · 18/03/2018 21:56

Yabvu for not insisting on neat southern comfort.

goose1964 · 18/03/2018 22:07

Coke is horrible compared to pepsi I love pepsi max
