Friend has been on a diet and has told me she has lost two stone in one month surely that's not possible or healthy? Most I've ever lost in a month is about ten pounds.

Depends how big she is. Not great if she was 11stone to start with...she could probably have done it with relative ease if she was 20 stone though.

Theconifers25 · 17/03/2018 09:32

Perfectly possible on a very low calorie diet and low carb diet if you are very heavy to start off with, ie 20stone.

User700800 · 17/03/2018 09:32

She was four stone over her ideal weight. So not massively overweight but a few stone over.

The faster if falls off the morelikely you are for it to creep back on again. It's a fast loss though.

PrettyLittIeThing · 17/03/2018 09:40

Yes it's possible I think. If you are very overweight. I done james duncan 'how I lost a stone in 1 week' and lost one stone within a week but imagine the majority is water weight.

InDubiousBattle · 17/03/2018 09:41

I have seen that kind of weight loss at sw but it was generally very obese people who had more than 4 stone to lose. 7 lb a week is a huge loss and no, I can't imagine she's done it for four weeks without essentially starving herself.

InspMorse · 17/03/2018 09:42

Yes it's possible and yes it does depend on how big she is.
I lose weight very quickly if I do SW. I never starve myself & always eat what I should. I have a ton of weight to shift and lose half a stone in the first week and 4/5 lb each week for however long I do it for.
A friend did the Cambridge diet and weight loss was even quicker. She was huge too.
-We both put it back on just as quick when we stop btw--

I think the people losing half a lb a week are those who don't have much to lose in the first place and aren't very big.

I can only guess that I and other bigger people burn loads of calories just getting around carrying a load of weight.

So she was 4 stone overweight and now shes two stone overweight? Why would that be unhealthy? People hold and shift weight differently

iamkahleesi · 17/03/2018 09:49

I lost about 4 stone in 3 months, I was obese though and I didn't do it in a very healthy way. Basically eating nothing and extreme exercise. I was intensely unhappy.

HairButty · 17/03/2018 10:19

How old is she? She will probably end up with saggy skin and look older!

Even assuming a fair amount water loss, I would think the aggressive calorie deficit that rate of loss required would make it difficult for her to ensure her body had the essential nutrients it needed without extensive use of supplements. Without them, she may have been malnourished over the last month. I think a bigger risk though, is at that rate you lose more muscle than at slower rates, and one of the muscles affected is the heart.

Whether it's a big risk to the heart if it's a one off crash diet, and she has no other health problems, I don't know, but there are good reasons it's recommended to consult a doctor before going under 1200 calories a day.
