Hi

Hubby and I have a dilema.

He wants the fruit bowl on the dining table.

I always thought it was common. We currently have it on a side table.

Please be gentle with me.....Grin

I have various fruit bowls which are for different types of fruit. I collect them - like vases - they are all huge too. They sit on the kitchen surfaces while the fruit slowly turns to a green dust. Then i bin it and then buy it again. I just got rid of my xmas pomegranates last week. Blush

No one eats fruit here. It tastes like cold crunchy piss.

There'd be no room on the dining table as it's always covered in folded laundry and playmobile.

RedBlackberries · 16/03/2018 21:08

I've got the opposite problem mrsKoala all ours gets eaten too quick if it's in plain sight!!

Orangettes · 16/03/2018 21:11

Agree that fruit does not taste good anymore.

LanguidLobster · 16/03/2018 21:15

Common as in frequent or common as in class judgment?

I dunno, I have a round dark oak very small dining table, and I just like having the tall dark wood salt and pepper grinders at the centre! God that makes me sound quaker

ScrambledSmegs · 16/03/2018 21:16

Agree that fruit does not taste good anymore.

That's a shame. The stuff we buy from our local market tastes great, if you have a local greengrocer or market it's worth supporting them. I agree that a lot of supermarket stuff lacks flavour, especially when it's out of season.

Vonklump · 16/03/2018 21:17

My fruit bowls live in the kitchen. Fruit spills over them. Similarly to another poster, if they sat on the table I would be having constant demands for bananas from the toddler. Grapes have to go into hiding. Usually behind the fruit bowl.

Vonklump · 16/03/2018 21:18

And the dining table is in the kitchen, as it's a kitchen diner now. Not sure if that makes me common or confused.

KittenBeast · 16/03/2018 21:19

Mine goes between kitchen table and Welsh dresser. I have never thought about fruit bowl placement as an indicator of social class. It's a fucking fruit bowl.

Nkhutch · 16/03/2018 21:22

We've always kept our fruit bowl on our kitchen table unless me and dp are having a grown up meal 😉 if that makes me common I'm not bothered. We did once move it to the fridge but that's because the dog got on the table for a rest and decided to lick all the fruit.... actually .....

MrsKoala · 16/03/2018 21:22

I live in Kent and only eat the local stuff, the cherries and strawberries round here are amazing. And we grow lots of Rhubarb, figs and raspberries. I may eat the odd cox apple too. I buy citrus fruit for cooking and drinks and bananas for the bairns/baking.

I also keep my tomatoes in a bowl on the side as they are tasteless from the fridge.

stargirl1701 · 16/03/2018 21:23

We have both a kitchen table and a dining room table. The sideboard is also in the dining room.

The fruit bowl is on the kitchen island.

PutUpWithRain · 16/03/2018 21:23

fruit in my fruit bowl

Mine's on the kitchen counter. It has no fruit in it, but is doing sterling service as the collector of odd socks, school letters, and hair bands.

Motoko · 16/03/2018 21:31

I'm not going to say where I put my fruit bowl, or whether I class it's position, common, until OP comes back to the thread she started nearly 6 hours ago.

Motoko · 16/03/2018 21:31
Wink
LanguidLobster · 16/03/2018 21:33

Have one if you want one, don't if you don't (as long as it's not that plasticised display stuff)

Viviennemary · 16/03/2018 21:38

You aren't supposed to put bananas in a fruit bowl. Makes the other fruit ripen too quickly and go off. Ours is on kitchen worktop. It's huge and a bit of a nuisance tbh.

Xeneth88 · 16/03/2018 21:39

Hubby is common. A fruit bowl anywhere isn't.

viiswi · 16/03/2018 21:43

Hello!!

Wow, totally amazed by the response.

I must apologise for my spelling - my keys are sticky and I didn't proof read. It's actually dilemma, not dilema.

I usually call hubby, husbando. It's one of the better names I call him Grin

We've been out all evening, just got home.

I think I'll keep it off the table - I'm sure the kids wuld end up putting all their stuff in it anyway.

Thank you for everyone's help. x

Bananas live separately here unless I need them to ripen an avocado. I also keep eggs in bowls in the kitchen. 1 for hens 1 for ducks. I have virtually no surfaces left for food prep now with all these display dishes about - it looks like the shittest buffet ever.

laddylonglocks · 16/03/2018 22:08

Don't have a frut bowl, we only like chilled fruit! Grin

Decisionsohdecisions · 16/03/2018 22:10

Mine is on the table.
Where have you got the idea that a fruit bowl on the table is common?

nokidshere · 16/03/2018 22:20

Another eho stored fruit in the fridge. Why would you leave it out all the time? Doesn't it go off quicker?

I've got teenage boys fruit, or indeed any food, isn't in the house long enough to go off !

I'm a bit 😮 at the amount people are saying they throw out each week though

ScrambledSmegs · 16/03/2018 22:26

But OP, the important question is do you have a stunt pineapple?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 16/03/2018 22:30

Ours is on the kitchen side. It currently contains not only a stunt pineapple but also a stunt coconut.

UnimaginativeUsername · 16/03/2018 22:34

Does it count as a stunt pineapple if it’s one of the basics ones that come with all the leaves lopped off?
