I've posted before about newish workplace that is OTT at celebrating bdays but this totally tales the biscuit for me.
The wife of a colleague is expecting (actually offically they are pregnant ) and there is going to be a work baby shower. Everyone is invited to contribute to a collection and bring a gift.
AIBU to think this is barking ?
This is a professional organisation and so much time is given over to frivolous shite it's unbelievable.

Ridiculous. Baby showers are awful at the best of times but if you're going to have one surely it's for the pregnant woman and her friends to get together and have a bit of laugh and give her stuff for herself or the baby.

I have this awful imagine in my head of some bloke sitting in a room full of his colleagues smiling and blushing as they hand him their funny gifts.

Do the people who are orginising know that he's not actually pregnant?

Do the people who are organising it know that he’s not actually pregnant? Umm yes I would imagine they do but maybe they think becoming a dad is something to make a little fuss over as many do for mums to be. Becoming a parent is a huge change in anyone’s life so what is wrong with colleagues marking that, if that’s the kind of workplace it is?

DH work place has always done cards, few gifts & flowers with each of our dc. They have also had a buffet lunch each time the day before his parental leave. His work place make a little fuss of mums & dads to be.

It doesn’t sound that OTT to me tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️
