To want a pt job where I don’t

have to remain calm under pressure or prioritise a heavy workload. Currently struggling in my role helping to build a new business.
I have a degree and I’m bright but I get stressed I now realise with a hectic environment.
Wibu to try to find a role 2 days per week doing something menial like typing (I’ve 80 wpm)? Do those roles even exist any more??

Virtual assistant? Copywriter/editor? Moderator?

If you have skills in building a business you could try building your own. I work from home p/t, self employed, very little pressure- and my hours are totally flexible.

Thank you. I definitely want to get out of the house as that’s part of the reason for wanting a job - to not go stir crazy!

Part time secretarial work might suit you. Unless you have secretarial training it would have to be in a small business, but that might help in terms of being a less pressured environment!

Waitrose? A friend of mine has moved from being a lawyer to working at Waitrose (shop floor, stocking etc), and loves the simplicity of it.

I think it’s also about learning how to switch off and how to stop an employer trying to make you fit a full time job into part time hours. Saying no is your friend! YANBU though,a stress free position is worth more than money in my opinion.

I have legal secretarial experience so I will explore that avenue locally.

Sandysmam - it is true that I’m being asked to do ft in pt hours. But I’m just not assertive naturally and have tried to learn so many times. It just makes me feel worse quite honestly.

I'm in a similar position and have just asked to drop some of my hours and have less responsibility (luckily I have a very supportive Head - work in a school) I am finding myself becoming increasingly anxious and its nit worth it. Actually I'd love a job somewhere like Waitrose but really need term time while my boys are still at school. I think you have to prioritise and recognise your own limits. Some people thrive in pressure, I'm not one of them!

ShortandAnnoying · 16/03/2018 07:57

I do agree part of it is learning not to let people stress you out. I work in what people would consider a menial position with pt hours and still find it quite stressful due to people's drama and time pressure.

the trouble with taking a shitty wee menial job when you are capable of a lot more but you take it as you need to work round kids and still earn something...is is that you find yourself working with fuckwits that you normally wouldn't give the time of day to, and often they are your boss and they can make your simple easy wee job such a fucking stressful nightmare you wonder why you bother every day

or maybe that's just me

Perhaps a job share would work, they get ft delivery just from 2 people so less pressure, although they can be hard to find.

Capability Jane are an agency that specialise in part time work. I know they have legal jobs on there.
