To feel annoyed my cancer concerns are being brushed off?

I'm 25 and I am 29 weeks pregnant. Since November I have been having chesty coughs and thick green phlegm (sorry) every 3 weeks. In January there was also blood in my phlegm so I saw my gp who agreed to send me for a chest x-ray un till he realised I was pregnant. Then today I have seen another gp from my surgery,I explained my concerns and said I have also been wheezing at times too though the blood in my phlegm has stopped. She listened to my chest and said she believes it's just winter bugs due to my lowered immune system. I said to her I am worried about lung cancer and she almost laughed at me and looked shocked. Cancer is so common now a days I'm not sure why they aren't taking me seriously.
Anyway I left no better off and with no answers. AIBU to be really worried or should I listen to the doctors when they have said I don't seem like i have cancer? Blush

Your real problem is your anxiety. You could probably benefit from some counselling to talk about why you are feeling so anxious. The chance of your illness being lung cancer is tiny. But I wonder if there's a reason they haven't given you antibiotics - I'm not a doctor, but as Elspeth says, it does sound like you have a nasty infection.

My 1st gp5was about to refer me for a chest x-ray untill he realised I was pregnant.

He wasn't about to refer you because he thinks you have lung cancer though. If he did, I'm sure he wouldn't have just left it. Can you speak to a GP again perhaps and explain how worried you are about it? I agree with pp that you've probably just had a bad chest infection - I get hit with absolutely everything when I'm pregnant, as do a lot of people - but it might put your mind at rest, plus they might be able to help you with your anxiety.

Have they checked you for asthma?

OutsideContextProblem · 15/03/2018 15:15

The chest X-ray would have been to check for TB - which is still very unlikely but much more likely than lung cancer.

Please seek help for your anxiety OP and leave NHS resources for those that do have cancer. You are not of them.

Ohh my love, I do understand how you're feeling, I have the same problem, not the chesty cough but the anxiety and worrying that something must be wrong with me!
I've had left sided chest, shoulder, back and arm pain which extends into my stomach for over a year and like you I went crazy thinking I had lung cancer, breast cancer, stomach cancer you name it. I've had two MRI's and they came back clear, yet I still sit convincing myself something is wrong.

Firstly, I do understand you NEED answers, but please do not beat yourself up chasing a diagnoses because it could be they can't diagnose you due to not knowing what's causing it. You need to learn to breathe and meditate, focus your mind somewhere else until you've had your baby and then pursue a diagnosis.
If they genuinely thought something was really wrong with you, they'd send you for an X-ray regardless, your doctor obviously didn't feel that your symptoms warranted it.

It's hard to stop worrying, but you really need to try and just put it to the back of your mind.

Have you had antibiotics?
