To think my baby has had a personality transplant?

My 19 week old boy used to be so placid and smiley and laid back and now he has totally changed. He doesn't sleep at night as well, won't nap anywhere but on me during the day, screams when I put him down and even just randomly screams half way through a feed (he is ebf)
Has anyone else gone through this with theirs? Should I be worried? I have heard of the 4 month fussies but the change in him is so intense that I am starting to get worried! Not to mention that I need to do everything one handed and am exhausted!

Four month sleep regression mixed with teething maybe?

ethelfleda · 12/03/2018 19:07

I didn't think teething would happen this soon! But it would explain why he is chewing on everything!

Silent reflux?

Amanduh · 12/03/2018 19:08

Teething makes my DC a totally different character! Can always tell because he’s SO different then once they cut, boom back to himself.

ItchySeveredFoot · 12/03/2018 19:37

Dd1s first tooth popped up at 3 months so it could be. Check the symptoms for silent reflux though as I don't have much info on that. Could you talk to your health visitor?

4 month sleep regression and teething

Some babies never change back after that first big sleep regression. I know it sucks but being a baby is HARD. No wonder so many of them are so fucking grumpy. Everything probably hurts from growing pains, teething is a bitch and they are desperately trying to work out the world and why things keep happening at them all the time.

Cornettoninja · 12/03/2018 19:44

I would guess developmental and teething too. Dd takes ages to cut a tooth so there's definitely stuff rumbling on beneath the surface way before anything pops through. Is he more settled after some calpol and/or bonjela?

Ibuprofen is much better for teething imho but I can't remember how old they have to be and it's tough on the stomach so I would use sparingly.

Isn’t this fairly typical? Google the Wonderweeks, they reckon they can predict the good and bad weeks.

Raffles1981 · 12/03/2018 19:47

My son was the same. He was teething (me too on the not realising it could start so early) and throwing milk up all the time, very clingy (bottle fed if that makes a difference) and it literally happened overnight. He was like a totally different baby. He's on Ranitidine now - I will stress, this may not be the answer for you - after speaking to my HV and getting referred to the GP. Reflux and/or teething are often the issue. Speak to your HV. I hope you get your baby back SmileFlowers

Yeah but no one tells you do they. Bastards. I’m on my third and enjoying him the most, mainly because my expectation had been reset to expecting the first year to be total shit lol (rather than lovingly gazing into eyes and being SO in tune with my baby which I expected first time round).

ethelfleda · 12/03/2018 20:51

You're so correct batteries it's so much easier when you accept that it'll be bloody hard and fairly thankless for a while!

And thanks for the tips everyone!

My DS literally never changed back to his sleepy placid old self after that 4 month sleep regression. The upside is that he began to get more alert and interactive...but yes, I remember the slowly dawning horror as I realised my days of ease were over.
