To stop watching the news as getting quite scary re Russia

I was just watching the news on this poisoning and seems this was deliberately done to provoke the UK into a response. I think the timing is quite significant that we are at odds with the European countries and Russia is taking advantage of this. AIBU to be worried that this could be a trigger into something unthinkable.

Sorry I didn't mean to be flippant about the individuals affected, attempted murder is of course terrible and the way they were targeted was cruel.

But why would the rest of us be worried, it's not like it was a random attack? And are people really surprised at Russia doing this kind of thing, they're hardly known for being a soft and fluffy nation??

Viviennemary · 12/03/2018 19:22

I'm glad some folk have taken this seriously. It only takes a small incident sometimes to spark something off that is much more serious. We've not been told half of what's going on. Perhaps it will all blow over in a few days.

The NHS was targeted by cyber terrorists thought to be Russian a few months back

That was actually North Korea behind the WannaCry attack, and Russian Olgiarches are pumping money into the rest of europe not just the UK. Germany is very friendly with them at the minute due to a new pipeline.

A lot of this scaremongering is due to the military wanting more spending, the influence in Brexit and Trump is minimal at best, and they have their hands in BLM and various other left wing groups but people rarely acknowledge that.

The old saying of keep the electorate scared is quite apparent...

"Why should those of us who are not former Russian spies be worried?"

Directly, not at all.

Indirectly, perhaps a lot. The release of a nerve agent by one state on the territory of another is concerning. Because if they had wanted simply to assassinate this man and his daughter, they did not have to choose a method that was reckless and to the possibility of contaminating considerable areas and harming or killing other people at random.

As an attack in one person in a state, rather than on the state, then it probably isn't a NATO matter in the usual sense. But the deployment of nerve agent is unprecedented so I am wondering if there will be a statement.

I stopped watching the 10 o'clock new about 5 years ago.

I used to feel so.anxious going to sleep.

Ignorance is bliss sometimes.

Op, having seen this sort of thing over the years, I would be very surprised if this turns into anything other than some cross words and maybe, at most, a diplomatic expulsion or two.
This ain't the Cuban missile crisis.
And I agree that Brexit will make no difference. I hate the Brexit result, btw.

So much misinformation on this thread! No wonder you’re worried...

Did you know that Putin is a direct descendant of Rasputin who was the instigator of the Russian Revolution and the Tzar’s family deaths were all his fault? Putin dropped the Ras a few years ago as it didn’t look good on his CV.

Putin goes around singing Vlad Vlad Vlad Putin, Russia’s greatest love machine 🎤🎼 He was gutted when Boney M wouldn’t play at the Kremlin.

You're a card, Agatha.
