I've recently broken my wrist & fallen behind on household chores as a result. My ironing pile is immense!! DM offered to take some to do but she's been a great help with DC & everything else so I don't want to put anything else on her.

A friend mentioned a lady had set up an ironing service in our area & had a Facebook page. I've just had a look at the page & she charges 70p per item, some items are more, pillowcases 90p each, duvet covers £3.50!!

I don't really know how much I expected it to be as I've never used anything similar before but that seems an awful lot to me. I was working it out & based on our washing for one day that would about £10 so a weeks worth £70, £90 if I was to send bedding, surely nobody pays that??

It'll be getting folded and put away as it is!!

I pay 70p per shirt - £7 a week for work shirts for DH and me. Best £7 I spend all week. Nothing else gets ironed.

gussyfinknottle · 12/03/2018 21:35

I always ironed. The Pile of Ironing was always a thing from my childhood- hence me Ironing for beer at uni. My dad taught me how to iron a shirt. And then I found the world didn't end if I didn't do it.

Although industrial companies will often have huge ironing machines...

You pays your money and take your choice...

I don't and have never ironed duvet covers... What a an absolute waste of life...

MrsMaxwell · 12/03/2018 22:33

Apparently there are plenty of Mumsnettets who “take in ironing” Grin

Systemoverload99 · 12/03/2018 22:34

A friend has her ironing done and pays her by weight of goods

NapQueen · 12/03/2018 22:34

Who iron bedding!?

hibbledibble · 12/03/2018 22:36

For shirts that sounds very reasonable.

Why are you ironing everything though?? It's a massive waste of time

I haven't ironed anything in years.

Shirts go to the dry cleaners, and everything else is just folded!

TheFlis12345 · 12/03/2018 22:44

Shirts are usually £1.50 each in London!

TotHappy · 12/03/2018 23:33

I haven' ironed a thing in years

DryHeave · 12/03/2018 23:40

Why would anyone offering an ironing service charge by the bag? Sounds like a surefire way to encourage customers to screw stuff up more & make the ironing task even harder.

DryHeave · 12/03/2018 23:42

I bet London shirts are those fancy super duper cotton ones that are a total bugger to iron.

BeTheHokeyMan · 12/03/2018 23:42

My local ironing lady does 50 items for 20 euro ( excludes shirts and bed sheets but she's does pillowcases!)

Ariela · 12/03/2018 23:46

My no-iron method works with most things other than linen or that very crisp cotton that doesn't iron well at the best of times.

You do need a tumble drier though.

Simply add a few (3-4 max items) to the drier along with a damp flannel sized cloth. Dry on hot for 5-10 minutes, remove from drier while still hot and hang up.

MrsMaxwell · 12/03/2018 23:49

I don’t buy clothes that need ironing.

If I wear a cotton shirt I wear a jumper and just iron the collar Blush

firawla · 13/03/2018 00:00

I pay 12.50 an hour but my cleaner reckons my big bag of ironing takes 2.5 hours so it does add up but it saves me the work so I’m happy enough to just swallow the cost for now. As for all the people saying why iron bedding - I’m really not someone with high standards, but sleeping on creased bedding is horrible! I think I’d rather leave some of the clothes unironed than the bedding!
