To ask If you're a SAHP when do you sit down?

Or how much down time do you manage to get if any?

Since DS2 arrived I'm coming to the conclusion that if I want my house to stay tidy, keep on top of laundry, make sure DC are fed and watered and DDog looked after I will not be sitting down at all unless it's to feed the kids and eat myself and I will be crashing in bed every evening.

Currently I am doing some hardcore skiving.

AIBU to think so Or am I right?

YANBU because it's non- stop when they are little. I barely sat down or watched TV for 8 years. I'm making up for it now that they're all in school though. Hang in on there - your time will come!

You’ll find you do more when you’re a SAHP than if you go out to work. But I realised it’s because we try to keep on top of it rather than doing it all in one go or keeping on top of it only for the evening. It’s just spread out, and most of the time quite unnecessary.

I work from home but I’m still a SAHP, and we home educate (although we also get tutors), and honestly it’s so much harder than when I went out to work. THAT SAID the fact it’s all within the home makes it so much nicer, I think (for me anyway) going our to work just makes life way more stressful. We may not get much time to breathe but we can suffocate in our pjs!

I guess it depends on your life. When my eldest was young and I was a SAHP and I didn’t work, life was amazingly easy. I have no idea why I felt like I didn’t have time because looking back I had allllllllll the time

In the evening when they're in bed. I do snatch little breaks during the day but if you want a clean, tidy house, good food and entertained kids then yes you need to be busy most of the time! There is literally always a job I could be doing. I often mn instead!

I have one DS aged 2 who doesn't nap, and am due the next DC any day now, I'm currently sitting on my birthing ball while DS watches the Gruffalo, but the minute that finishes I'll be back on my feet, as I have been since 7am (and I consider that a pretty late start).
My professional career before DC was no where near as full on as raising children!

DesignedForLife · 12/03/2018 16:20

I sit down whilst DC2 naps and DC1 watches something on TV. I'm also trying to set up my own business. My house looks like a bomb has hit it, and thanks to a muddy weekend, multiple accidents from dc1 and a week of illness I've got at least 8 loads of laundry to put away (didn't realise we owned so many clothes). But if I don't sit down for 5 I might go mad.

Sit....down?

Sorry, no, you've lost me.

I think the last time I sat down was in 2012.

Squishysquirmy · 12/03/2018 16:22

I sit down a lot.

But I only have one (preschooler) and I think I'm a bit shit at the whole housewife thing.

I sit on the carpet while she plays, I sit at the table to eat lunch, I sit at toddler groups while she socialise, I sit with her while we read/draw/ practice writing together, I sometimes even lie down while she pretends I am a baby/patient/soft play!

The house is a right state though....

Moments of quiet on the other hand are very elusive....

I've raised 3 children, gave birth to them all within 4 years so had 3 little ones at home and honestly I found plenty of time to sit down. I don't understand people who say they are always on the go and still doing chores at bedtime.

Feed the kids breakfast, stick a wash on, run the Hoover around and then sit whilst the kids entertain themselves or whilst I fed the baby. Get up, make lunch, move washing to the drier, stick another load on, clean up from lunch and quick clean of the bathroom and then sit down again and play with kids or read. Finally get up, cook dinner, tidy up whilst the kids eat, get them in to bath and pjs and sit and play with them till bedtime. Put kids to bed and relax.

It's really not that hard. Now all my kids are in school I have 6 hours a day to fill, it's great, lots of sitting. I do housework and reward myself with a sit down, a cuppa, a good book or tv show.

I feel like the sahp who "never stop" kind of martyr themselves somewhat.
