To wonder if this is the most greedy Freecycle post ever

I went on to offer an item today. Saw the following post (minus the text speak/spelling errors):

Wanted: TV (so far so good)
Must be in excellent condition (OK). I only want a decent make eg Samsung (Hmmm). Must have 4 sockets (not sure what this means) and be 42" minimum although bigger would be better (isn't it always). I want black but would accept silver (very generous I'm sure). Send pictures and your telephone number for consideration and I will contact you if I will take it. I need it by the weekend so if I can't have it by then don't email me (wow!). I can collect but would prefer delivery (as if anyone would even respond to this!).

fleshmarketclose I can't believe the nerve of some people, seriously. Almost as if they think they're doing you a favour!

londonmummy1966 · 12/03/2018 12:19

Best one I saw on our local freecycle was someone asking for a viola da gamba as her daughter wanted to learn it. Obviously there are loads of those sitting around....

Nicest one was a little girl who was given some of my daughters old toys and sent her a drawing of them in their new home to say thank you.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 12/03/2018 12:20

"would you like it delivered by unicorn?"

Trinity66 · 12/03/2018 12:20

aww, that's cute

daisychain01 · 12/03/2018 12:21

Either we don't have CFs around here or people are genuinely desperate

I can empathise with desperate, but not when it comes to a television.

If they were to say "my DC doesn't have any school shoes, or an overcoat, please can you help" I'd be happy to oblige, but asking for a TV and expecting delivery is really on a par with "cloud cuckoo land" aka taking the piss.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 12/03/2018 12:23

Just Shock. The CFery of some people.

daisychain01 · 12/03/2018 12:23

My DC is learning to play the violin. Please get a courier (UPS) round here with that Stradivarius, they need it now, they have an exam to pass on Friday. Grin

helpmum2003 · 12/03/2018 12:24

Joke?

Mammalamb · 12/03/2018 12:26

Bobster. I’ve noticed this happening quite often on the facebay sites and I think they take the stuff that someone has given for free and sell it on. Because of this I just won’t give stuff away for free unless they really seem genuine. Then there are folk selling things for ridiculous prices. A five pack of second hand kids knickers for £7 (well, they were boden and had “no stains” yeesh

MidniteScribbler · 12/03/2018 12:26

I put up a convertible bed for $100 Australian Dollars (in almost brand new condition, original cost $500 and had been used twice and in a spare room the whole time). Someone contacted me and wanted to know if I had it red/green (mattress was yellow/blue colours). I responded with no, it was that colour. They then said 'well I guess I'll take it for $20. Drop it off at . No, I cannot drop off, and I won't take $20. Response was 'But I'm a single mother and I need it. I can probably pick it up if I have to, but will only be able to give you $10 as I have to pay my ex to get it." It took twelve messages to explain to her that she wasn't going to get it.

WorriedAndConfusedHelp · 12/03/2018 12:26

I’ve never used this site but have heard of it and thought it was for people generously donating their old items. I didn’t know it was used by people requesting brand new items Shock. Does this actually work? If I saw a post so demanding and arrogant I would be hard pressed to want to actually give said item to them and would want it to go to someone who would be more grateful and appreciative because they actually need it, not someone who will turn their nose up because a free 40 inch tv is in black and not silver Hmm

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/03/2018 12:27

I once saw "Stokke Tripp Trapp wanted for free". Yeah right love...

fleshmarketclose · 12/03/2018 12:27

Trinity It is exactly that. There was well in excess of £250 worth of good quality stuff, I thought that it would do someone a favour as it would have fully fitted out a bedroom with a complete spare set of bedding besides but those that replied seemed to reply like they were doing me a service to take it (If I delivered) I figured that the one living five minutes away wasn't in need because I know if I had been I'd have walked and collected the stuff.
Definitely worth bearing in mind your local charity shops I think, they were more than happy to collect. I would have delivered to them but there is no parking close by.

happystrummer · 12/03/2018 12:28

Doesn't surprise me. I'm another one that doesnt bother with freecycle anymore due to cheeky fuckery with people doing the "I'll have it" and then not bothering to get back or turn up or expecting me to deliver to them. I take stuff to the local recycling centre or charity shops now. It's such a shame that these entitled ones spoil it for everyone.

ilovecherries · 12/03/2018 12:28

I unsubbed from ours after some charmer called me a fucking capitalist for declining to pay for a 'man and a van' to pick up 3 piece suite, coffee table, washing machine, fridge freezer and dining room table and chairs they had grabbed. All almost new as well, we were clearing out my FIL's house after he died. Her logic was "Im doing you a favour taking it off your hands, why the fuck should I hire the van to collect it, you fucking capitalist bitch'. We laugh about it now, but at the time we were so emotionally distraught that it felt like the last straw.

Salvatoresequestino · 12/03/2018 12:32

Going to go slightly again the grain here. We rent flats out fully furnished to tenants. Sometimes the tenants come longterm and bring their own stuff, meaning we have to empty a whole flat of furniture very quickly. The storage costs for this can be very expensive and sometimes it’s better to pass some of the stuff on for free quickly to people who can collect, rather than list it somewhere and wait for a sale or arrange delivery.

While I agree the post is very grabby and entitled, I expect he has had some success with this approach in the past...

MrsHathaway · 12/03/2018 12:36

On our group you can only posted "Wanted" on Wednesdays.

I unsubscribed when the admin screwed me over - long story short, he proved to be one of the worst offenders for CFery and "I'll have it" and pulling rank when he did so. Fuck. Off.

OutyMcOutface · 12/03/2018 12:37

I’ve given away stuff with a reasonable resale value so that I didn’t have to store it/scrap it but this is a bit ridiculous.

BugsyMcGee · 12/03/2018 12:38

I gave away a big freezer on freecycle. Woman comes saying hers broke down and we had saved her a fortune because she didn't have to throw a freezer full of expensive (best salmon etc, doncha know) food out.

Then she swans off and gets in the car and starts fucking texting, waiting for my DH to carry it out of the house and to place it in the back of her car by himself. I couldn't help as had a bad back, one of our neighbours rushed out to help, she never even looked up after deciding to take it let alone offered to help. Then she just drove off without so much as a thank you, goodbye or kiss my arse.

Entitled cheeky fucker.

Havingahorridtime · 12/03/2018 12:40

Even scrap cars have some value though malb. My mums ancient car died last year, the engine virtually blew up. She still got £140 from the scrap man for it. The cost of scrap metal means that every scrap car has some value. I wonder if people are asking for scrap cars on free cycle and then immediately selling them to the scrap metal man?

I like to imagine some of them are wind ups. Please let them be wind ups.

The last Freecycle post I read before unsubscribing was "Wanted: bugaboo chameleon. Must be navy and in excellent condition."

Drivemecrazy1974 · 12/03/2018 12:50

To be fair to the Fortnum and Mason one, I've been looking for a F&M used hamper to use as a picnic basket for when we're camping. I just like the idea of having the logo on our picnic hamper when we spend so little on our camping trips but try to things with a luxury twist. I wouldn't think somebody was being particularly greedy asking for one unless they wanted it to be full!!

KitKat1985 · 12/03/2018 12:50

I once saw a post of a FB page saying they wanted a tablet. Oh and it would have to be delivered to them.

Trinity66 · 12/03/2018 12:53

ilovecherries That's ridiculous, I hope you didn't give her the stuff after that
