To mess with abandoned trollies?

Dannii689 · 11/03/2018 00:23

I cannot stand abandoned shopping trollies in supermarkets...as a wheelchair user I find it difficult enough to navigate the aisles when it's busy etc, without people's carts lying in the way. I tend to react passive aggressively to this, and either hide their trollies or add lots of items to them. It is a way of venting to me. If I get pulled up by said trolley abandoner, I usually remind them that trollies have wheels and can go where they go too.

@blankpieceofpaper re-read original post again. Think you missed an important point there.

@snoreyhell my trolley attaches to my wheelchair.

Please PM me when you do. It will make my day. I am prepared to wait several weeks though because I appreciate it is quite a challenge! Grin

The staff do it as well. Most of them won't mind taking things back

Depends on the day and the store.

I work in a large supermarket and while we don't mind putting items back on the shelves if customers have changed their minds and/or left stuff behind it is fucking annoying when people purposely bring items they have no intention of buying to the checkout or moving stuff around on the shelves for their own amusement I hate whoever came up with the idea of letter monogrammed anything as teenagers are always spelling out rude words and then parents get annoyed when their 5 year old reads them

Also my store is currently getting a refit so things are moved on literally a daily basis to accommodate the work and trolleys are regularly "abandoned" as customers track back to find something that has been moved overnight. On a quiet Wednesday night I would have no issue with you mucking about with someone's trolley but on a manic rainy Saturday before Mothers Day where colleagues haven't stopped all day, like my store has done today, I'd be really annoyed with people creating more work for staff.

Dannii689 · 11/03/2018 01:12

@dalek as you can probably tell, I fought my way through Asda today, so won't be back for another week or so, but I will update when quest is complete of course 😂 you've cheered me up, thank you again x

@melj, when customers track back, can't the trolley go with them? Just putting that wild theory out there! 😊

DalekDalekDalek · 11/03/2018 01:16

You better do otherwise I will assume that you have chickened out!

Springtrolls · 11/03/2018 01:19

That's what I don't understand about the abandoners. They leave their trolley at the bottom of an aisle. Walk up picking up whatever along the way, then walk back with various goods.
Would be easier for everyone if they took their trolley with them.
Must also make things harder for staff as you don't know if a customer is still shopping or if they have left the store.

Obsidion · 11/03/2018 01:19

You wouldn't be able to push a normal trolley, and you would be very slow.

😂 Obviously never seen me play wheelchair basketball...

melj1213 · 11/03/2018 01:20

@Danii689 perhaps, but that is their choice and they aren't doing anything wrong. Yes it is inconvenient but no more inconvenient than a lot of other bad habits customers have.

I have done it myself on occasion, got halfway down an aisle and thought I had just passed the spot where an item should be, so I leave the trolley to take a few steps back rather than dragging it back only to realise the item was furthe than I expected/has been moved and it's quicker to nip back than return to get the trolley and go back again.

Dannii689 · 11/03/2018 01:23

@obsidion I've never tried basketball, might practice on some abandoned trollies next time 😂

Obsidion · 11/03/2018 01:26

You should try it @Dannii689, it's so much fun. I love the freedom of moving really fast. Grin

macbethh · 11/03/2018 01:37

I love this! 😂😂

alligatortoss · 11/03/2018 01:45

What a stupid and pointless thing to do. It’s not a malicious attack on you.

All you’re achieving is making someone who works there return the items. Good one.

NotAllTimsWearCapes · 11/03/2018 01:52

OP you should get some little cards made up with a message on them about abandoned trollies causing a problem for people with mobility issues and put them in every trolley in your way.

Or sit stubbornly shouting “excuse me! I can’t get past” very loudly so everyone looks to see who the offender is Grin

Pretenditsaplan · 11/03/2018 02:03

I have mobility issues yes holding on to a trolley helps but for short distances ( i.e returning an item because i saw similar on sale later on ) i will park my trolley and walk as turning it when full can be more painful then just going without. So yes doing that means my day is more painful thanks. I try to put my trolley out of the way but i will have to be in front if something. Normally i have a carer with me to watch the trolley but sometimes it just isnt possible. Mobility issues dont end with wheelchair issues and quite frankly i find your post sneering and condescending. I keep the trolley in sight and put it as out of the way as possible but it will be in the way if someone no matter what. The same as when my leg goes mid shop and i have to stand still clutching the trolley until i know my legs can support my weight completely again. Im still in peoples way but i cant really do a lot about that. Do you huff if people in mobility scooters or electric wheelchairs run out of power unexpectedly run out of power in your way too?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/03/2018 02:29

So you have 'mobility issues' but are able to load other peoples trolley with extra items and push them all over the place. Sorry you are being childish, minimum wage shop workers are having to clean up your mess.

Adelino · 11/03/2018 05:54

I don't really understand this. I sometimes leave my trolly to the side to pop back for a forgotten item. It's easier for everyone, not just me, to leave it in eg. the near empty pet food aisle rather than try to renegotiate the full baby/ cosmetics aisle to grab some sudocrem.
I would have no problem with someone moving the trolley to get to an item they needed and would apologise when I get back, although this has never happened. I would find it really odd if someone decided to put random things in my trolly as some sort of vigilante punishment.

MrsCrabbyTree · 11/03/2018 05:57

Have I just found out the reason why my shopping costs more than I expect at the checkout? Stop adding things to my trolley when I'm not looking you cheeky bastards. Grin

DalekDalekDalek · 11/03/2018 06:20

MrsCrabbyTree lol oops Blush

Coconutspongexo · 11/03/2018 06:25

I honestly think this is stupid. Yes move it out your way if you have to but hiding it? Grow up!
Lots of people with mobility issues need to lean in the trollies even those with severe COPD they can rest in their trollies to help with their breathing, sometimes they have to leave the trolley whilst they get something else, people might have been in their way before you came into the aisle.
It must be shit that this happens especially when you’re a wheelchair user but don’t be petty & don’t minimise other peoples illnesses or disabilities.

Jaxtellerswife · 11/03/2018 06:39

If someone messed with my shopping I wouldn't think 'wow they have shown me the error of my ways' I would think 'what a dickhead'.

kiggenpaws · 11/03/2018 06:45

I had to ‘abandon’ my shopping the other day (left to one side of the aisle) to rush my potty training toddler to the toilet so she didn’t soil herself. So whilst I understand it might cause you issues, people may have stuff going on that you don’t know about.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/03/2018 06:47

If people have forgotten an item, leaving the trolley for a moment makes sense. Otherwise they’re going the wrong way and get in the way of wheelchair users and other trolley users.

I’m too ill to shop so don’t use a trolley. But having fought going the wrong way round a supermarket in the past, it is seen as inconsiderate by other shoppers to take your trolley under these circumstances. You get glared at and tutted at a lot.

It isn’t personal, you know. The rare time I go and get a few bits, it also pisses me off when people abandon their trolley directly in front of the goods I want to take and then get pissed off when I move it to get the product. Being chronically ill, it takes far too much energy to move a trolley and deal with a stroppy, entitled Pratt.
