To ask if anyone can help me with parking in York?

Good evening,

I have to catch a train from York at 2pm on Thursday and then get back to York station at 1.30pm. I'll be driving down from the North East (£18 return to Kings Cross so an absolute steal!). Does anyone know of the best place to park around the train station? Or if I should suck it up and pay train station parking charges?

There's a car park at the back of the station which is a bit cheaper - called York Commuter Car Park. Don't know whether that would suit you. Otherwise, there's a few residential streets that are about a 10 minute walk from the station and don't have any parking restrictions.

The park and ride schemes are very efficient too. Only about 10 mins into town out of rush hour.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 10/03/2018 22:16

The station is in the city centre, so any central parking will be appropriate.

BlueNeighbourhood1 · 10/03/2018 22:25

With the park and ride, will it still be running at 1.30am on a Friday morning to take me back to the car.

I'll give it a go and probably try and find one a walk away, if it's free even better!

York Park and rides close about 8 or 9pm. Nunnery Lane car park is 5 - 10 min easy walk from the station - maximum fee £12.50. Non resident parking nearby streets are rare. I wouldn’t risk trying to find one with available space. Most nearby are residents only.
The commuter car park mentioned above is not the best place to be walking back to in the early hours.

There's one right next to premier Inn which is 5 mins from station

Go on the parkopedoa website and type in the postcode, it’ll give you all the options and pricing

Lunenburg · 10/03/2018 22:52

The Park and Ride won't work. There is no parking allowed after it closes.

Nunnery Lane is The Car Park I would use. You will be walking on main streets all the way between the Station and your Car.

My OH normally parks down the residential streets about 10 minutes walk away with no parking restrictions...

Walkerbean16 · 10/03/2018 23:00

there is parking near the railway museum for £9 all day, not sure if it closes though. its a short walk from the station, maybe 10 minutes.

chickywoo · 10/03/2018 23:09

The car park at the back of the station a Pp mentioned is Leeman road I think, it’s just a bit further along from the railway museum car park (which is £10 for all day) this one is £10 for 24 hours or 13.50 depending on which area of it you park in you can book online. We actually parked there on a Saturday and just paid when we got there was bargain of £5 for 24 hrs - worth bearing in mind for weekend trips in York. Is a short walk under the bridge to the station & city centre.

The commuter car park will feel very lonely at that time of the morning. Nunnery Lane will probably feel more comfortable to return to, well lit and on main road. The residential streets I think must be further up Leeman Road, also a lonely walk. Tbh I would just pay for the premium car park. Expensive but convenient.
