To think 2000 calories a day really isn't very much

I was sat in a restaurant today and noticed almost all the dishes were around 500-800 calories for the salad and low calorie options. The normal dishes (pasta, grilled dishes) were around 1000 calories. This wasn't a greasy take away but a Greek restaurant which uses only fresh ingredients.

I eat healthily but I eat more than 2000 calories a day. I maintain a healthy weight which may be due to the fact I'm fairly active and the calories I eat are from healthy food.

I can easily see how do many people are overweight as it's very easy to go over the 2000 calories mark.

A bowl of porridge with fruit, rice salad, protein bar and banana and for dinner lamb roast dinner and I'm already over the 2000 mark. That's not factoring in the lattes I had or the flapjack after dinner!

I would be so hungry if I reduced how much I eat. How do people manage to routinely eat less than 2000 calories? For me to achieve that I would have to record everything I eat.

Obviously I'm a healthy weight so I'm doing just fine. But AIBU to think 2000 calories a day really isn't much and we've lost sight of what a normal days worth of food looks like?

love this sounds like it’s just your shape. We’re not all meant to have a ‘thigh gap’. You sound fit and healthy concentrate on the bits you like instead of trying to change bits that are just the way you are. I’ve always got a bit of a belly even when I’m well within my BMI, none of us are perfect.

It's an interesting question, Love. I've lost weight recently owing to illness and surgery crap going on - but I never seem to reduce my breast size much.

I'm suspicious that people 'body sculpt' at clinics and pretend it's all down their 'superior' lifestyle and eating-of-air.

When I do loose weight it goes from my breasts, I have gone from a c cup to not being able to wear a real bra (I live in sports bras/crop tops), probably almost a A cup but can’t loose it from my thighs and hips.

Game you are probably right, it’s my shape, I do have hip problems too which I think gives me a slightly wider shape, the rest of my legs are muscular, I do a lot of leg work at the gym, I have a wide back too and my arms are similar to my legs, fat at the top, thin at the bottom. I think I will concentrate on toning my tummy a bit more and maintaining my weight, I think if I loose anymore it will just go from my face and boobs.

If I could eat exactly what I wanted without thinking about the calories/my health my daily diet might look like this:

Tea with lots of milk and sugar with a few digestives when I wake up

Bagel with cheese and oozing with butter for breakfast

More tea mid am

Big sandwich with butter/mayo poss cheese/ham/chicken with crisps, chocolate bar and fizzy drink for lunch

Afternoon snack of fruit and possibly more chocolate and juice

Big carby dinner like macaroni cheese or lasagne or a roast with 2 or 3 glasses of wine

At the weekends add on extra desserts/ eating out/ snacks and drinking.

It can easily be 3500 cals.

I find hunger painful and just can’t bear it.

I don’t actually eat like that because I’d be 20st in no time but I find cutting below 2000 for more than a couple of weeks impossible!

Seven I find it hard some days too. I’m hungry now and have used up all my calories, I could easily eat a McDonald’s or scoff a cheese sandwich but I will go to bed before I raid the kitchen.

Have planned what I’m eating tomorrow, basically starving myself so I can eat dominos tomorrow night for my daughters birthday, small veggies pizza is over 900cal Shock and a slice of birthdays cake 200cal (small slice).
