Is a torsion in Fallopian tube urgent?

Because I think I have that.

In September after a medical management MC I had a D&C for retained products. I also had a large cyst on my left ovary and I asked her to remove it since I was going under anaesthetic because it was causing me pain.
She was reluctant but when she went in the weight of the cyst was causing my Fallopian tube to twist round and round and that was the source of my pain. She popped the cyst and happy days.

Fast forward to now and I’ve had another scan that shows a uterine polyp and another cyst on the same ovary. The consultant (same one) suggested leaving it 8 weeks to see what the cyst does. Grow more of go away.

That was 6 weeks ago, two cycles ago.

I now have that very familiar pain that I had before and it’s worse every day.

I have the repeat scan on Tuesday but don’t have the follow up appointment until April.

How urgent is all this?

Can I still wait until Tuesday for the scan? I’m worried about getting to the point of not being able to function if the pain gets worse and worse.

How worrying is a torsion Fallopian tube?

Yes it is urgent. You could lose your ovary

I had this. Dd was 6 weeks old and I ended up in A&E. They didn't find the cause of my pain, and assumed it was kidney stones. Then when dd was 13 weeks old, I ended up in A&E again and they thought it was a pelvic infection. After 5 days in hospital each time, on heavy duty pain relief, the pain subsided and I was allowed to go home, without any real diagnosis.

10 years later, after ongoing pain which was always put down to IBS, I was having a gynae operation for a prolapse, and instead of finding a prolapse, they found a grapefruit sized cyst wrapped around my ovary, twisted behind my uterus and had to remove the ovary and fallopian tube. The consultant said that it had almost certainly the cyst/ovary/fallopian tube twisting that had caused me all the pain, and the growing cyst putting pressure on the bowel/uterus that had caused the IBS symptoms.

The pain when the cyst/ovary/fallopian tube was twisting was really bad! I would definitely recommend going to the A&E. You need to be seen.

I had this last year after a MC and ended up at A&E with suspected appendicitis. It resolved itself by popping before I had a scan and it was horrendous. I don’t recommend it and I was very lucky (I’ve gone on to have a healthy child since). If I were you, I’d get it seen to this weekend either at OOH or A&E

BillyAndTheSillies · 10/03/2018 10:13

Please go to A&E. I had the similar appendicitis pain in August last year. After a scan, they said my appendix had fallen behind my bowel so they admitted me, by this point I was on morphine for pain.
My pain got less but my infection markers kept going up and up and after two days they did keyhole surgery. My DH was told I'd be back up within 2 hours. 5 hours later I was bought round. When they'd gone in, it was a ruptured cyst that had pooled in my pelvis and they had to spend a lot of time cleaning out the infection.
No idea what would have happened if I'd have left it.
Please go.

If they operate, I will tell them to take my ovary. This will be the second time it’s twisted with a large cyst in less than 6 months.
I’m currently waiting in OOH but I’m guessing they will refer me to A&E anyway.

For those of you who have suffered torsions, how long did it take to go from bareable pain to unbearable pain and hospital?

The A&E at the hospital on Saturday confirmed that the cyst had grown (they can now feel it) and that it could be a partial torsion but I wasn’t in enough pain for it to be a complete torsion.
The former needs urgent sugery, hopefully this week or next week.
The latter needs emergency surgery and I will be in agonising pain.

I really don’t want to end up with the latter yet the pain is increasing.

I wondered how it was for others, time wise with regards to how the pain increased.

I had a full torsion and was in complete agony (and i’ve given birth 4 times). From memory it took a week or so from the pain to go from being uncomfortable to completely unbearable and in the end I ended up going to hospital by ambulance and having emergency surgery. It is absolutely the worst pain I have ever felt. It came in waves and I was also very, very sick with it.

Despite seeing nearly a dozen doctors who were all told I had a 10cm cyst no-one connected the pain and sickness to a torsion. At least you know what’s happening but please go straight back to a and e if the pain is getting worse.

I had keyhole emergency surgery and very luckily kept my ovary. I was doubly lucky as I was also 10 weeks pregnant and if they had needed to remove the ovary I would have lost the baby.

Take care.

If it’s getting worse then go back and tell them. So I think that means A&E, tonight.

Dozenmorewonthurt · 12/03/2018 21:06

It was niggling for months. Then in the space of 48 hours it just went from bearable to agonising. I passed out numerous times. At one point in the car park trying to see an OOH doctor. Needless to say they thought I was being very dramatic Angry. Turned out a large solid cyst, full torsion. I had the ovary, and tube removed.
Go in and don't let them fob you off. No one needs to reach that level of pain before actually being listened to. Good luck xx

WhoUpsetTheEquilibrium · 12/03/2018 21:15

Chelby I cant yet because I’m walking and talking and not being sick.

And I would have to have that presentation and I wouldn’t be able to act that out.

I don’t want to get to the point either, but I don’t feel like I have a choice but to wait.

Thats awful they’re wanting you to basically wait until you’re in agony. What a mindfuck.

WhoUpsetTheEquilibrium · 12/03/2018 21:20

They are getting me on the surgery list ASAP, I kind of see why their hands are tied.

But yes it’s unpleasant to have the thought of agonising pain hanging over my head.

I’m sorry you’re going through this OP but glad to hear you are getting it sorted Flowers
