Help me remember this weird children’s book from the 90s

This is driving me potty. I used to love a picture book when I was little that was full of purposeful mistakes to spot. I remember there was a woodland page which had a tree with a dog behind it, half the dog poking out from behind the tree was a golden lab and the other half a black lab. Think there was a page with a bandstand too?! And witches legs?! Help me find it please!

Wacky Wednesday.

Auntnelly · 08/03/2018 22:19

Thanks but just googled images and that’s not it

When you say purposeful messages was it 'moral of the story' messages

restofthetimes · 08/03/2018 22:23

Something about spot the dog?

SouthernComforts · 08/03/2018 22:23

Can't help with the book but it reminds me of a set of square cards I had as a kid. They were puzzles, one was different dogs so the front of one kind of dog and the back of another, the other set was witches. You had to make a square with all correct matches.

Could be made by the same co. If anyone knows what I'm talking about!

Auntnelly · 08/03/2018 22:23

No lots of quirky ’something wrong with the pictures’ mistakes

A walk in the park by Anthony Browne

Auntnelly · 08/03/2018 22:26

I think their might have been musicians on the bandstand. Can’t remember if this was in the book, but as an example the musicians would all be playing trumpets but one would be playing a wellington boot Confused it was a very odd book Grin

wigeon I’m off to google but I reckon that’s it! The name rings a bell!

Ah wigeon you’re amazing! How on earth did you find it from my terrible description?

Is that definitely the book?! I often read these threads and never recognise the books! We’ve got an old copy of that book and I rather like Anthony Browne - all his books have that quirky stuff you’re talking about in the illustrations so I thought it might be something by him. And I recognised the bit about the two half dogs, as that book is about two different dogs and their different owners.

Wigeon: Anthony Browne is absolutely brilliant. I worked as a teacher-librarian in a primary school in the 90s. Every child from the 5 year old kindies to the 12 year old children (some of whom were extremely bright as the school had gifted and talented classes) loved him - obviously on different levels.
