To have resented this (parking)

Namechanged regular.

I have an 'invisible' disability that affects my mobility. Have a blue badge.

I usually work out of a specific office location, today I had to go to another location, my employer doesn't own/run the whole building but has an office within it. Arrived and parked in a disabled bay, parkingvat thus location is particularly tight and oversubscribed.
Mead been working 20 mins or so when a security guard came into my office and asked if anyone had parked a [my car make]!in a disabled bat, I said I had. He said "can you move it please?".

I pointed out that it had a blue badge on it. He said "oh, right, it's just that someone rang down from upstairs to say someone had parked there". I said yes, because I'm entitled to. He looked me up and down (sitting!) and said, "oh, well it's just that sometimes people work here who use walking sticks and so on. Why do you need it?".

I felt cornered into disclosing my disability, so I did, he then said he would let me know if they needed me to move it!

There were three BB bays, in the whole day one other was occupied for a while and the other remained free. But what if another BB holder turned up - would they really have expected me to move my car? Because I was apparently a 'lower grade' of disabled because I wasn't using a walking aid? AIBU to think this is whack out of order?

YANBU op, in fact you should have told Nosey McNoseyson that you WON'T be disclosing your private health issues and to naff off take it up with your employer if necessary.

BerylStreep · 08/03/2018 20:59

Had you displayed your badge?

CatsAreHarderThanKids · 08/03/2018 21:00

Yes, my badge was displayed in the windscreen.

you just say you qualified for the badge and it's not for anyone else to question. Goodbye. I would also complain at your usual workplace.

bridgetreilly · 08/03/2018 21:03

YANBU. You do not have to explain why you have the badge and you definitely should not have to move your car.

Redpriestandmozart · 08/03/2018 21:04

My response would have been, "I have a blue badge and I am not moving my car, you know that not all disabilities are viable? that's all I am going to say" Then ignore him.

ChasedByBees · 08/03/2018 21:04

I would complain. It’s clear he didn’t check whether there was a blue badge before searching for the car owner (surely quicker!) and if there is a BB, he has no right to ask why you have it or to assign himself the role of judging whose disability is more in need.

Redpriestandmozart · 08/03/2018 21:04

That should say visible, bloody auto correct!

FlouncyDoves · 08/03/2018 21:06

Just tell him to mind his own business.

Or ‘fuck off’

Aprilmightmemynewname · 08/03/2018 21:10

Keep a stick handy to smash his ankles with next time. Accidentally of course.

lakeshoreliving · 08/03/2018 21:16

That is well out of order. You have a badge, you displayed it. You don't have to give out your medical details, if there is a next time just tell him that he isn't your gp and you're not discussing it with him.

Floralnomad · 08/03/2018 21:19

You should have just left it at ‘I have a blue badge , I’m entitled to park there , please go away ‘ , which would have been the same response if if he felt a more deserving disabled person came along .

BlankTimes · 08/03/2018 21:29

sheesh!!! Tell him you'll disclose your confidential medical diagnoses to him when he brings you his medical records to look at.

this is disability discrimination, complain to the bosses, make sure he's sent on a disability Awareness Course.

Gazelda · 08/03/2018 21:45

Everything that Blank said.

Sarsparella · 08/03/2018 21:50

What a knob! I’d have a word with your manager about that, totally out of order!

And like others have suggested, if anyone ever dares question your right to park in a disabled bay again say ‘I have a blue badge which is clearly displayed, I’m entitled to use that space’

The reasons for you having been granted that badge are none of anyone’s business & I know they’re also not given out easily, so you don’t have to answer anyone’s questions

Nocabbageinmyeye · 08/03/2018 21:51

Next time ask him to produce his medical degree so he can prove he is qualified to disifer which one of you are most in need of the space. Numpty, yanbu

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 08/03/2018 21:59

If you qualify for a badge, you can use it.
The reason is none of his business

CanuckBC · 08/03/2018 22:07

I would definitely bring this up with your work. Not on at all. You have the parking badge and are legally allowed to park there. Done. No further questions need be asked, no further investigation need be done.

He was over the line in asking why and should be told by higher ups that it is illegal to do so.

If there were open spaces that were handicapped what was the issue!

PilatesSuck · 08/03/2018 22:17

Fuck off is a good phrase. Not all disabilities are visible cunty chops is another
