Shampoo Pettiness AIBU?

I keed to now whether AIBU to mention something or not..

We're not a well off family, we get by. The one luxury I have is my shampoo. I have very long, thick hair so I like to treat myself to a decent shampoo. Now the problem is, we have a relative staying with us temporarily for a few months. He has short hair but seems to be using my shampoo every day and a lot of It!

When I went to wash my hair this morning most of the bottle has gone! I only bough it a couple of weeks ago and do not wash my hair everyday. There's 2 other 'men's shampoos available so why the hell is he using ALL my shampoo? I did point out to him when he first arrived which things were mine and which things to help himself too.

AIBU and petty? It's genuinely annoying me that he's using my expensive shampoo everyday and it's almost all gone. Should I tell him to get his own in the future?

I used to buy several fancy shampoo types as I liked a choice and my husband would "help me" by using it up for me.

When I was a divorced mum every penny counted. One of the few luxury’s I had was expensive bath oil. Half a cap full every night in my bath, a bottle would last me ages.

One evening I noticed the whole bottle empty and asked my little boy why-what ?? He told me his baby-sitter took a bath! The stupid girl must have thought it was bubble bath and dumped it all in expecting bubbles. She must have slipped around in all the oil and looked like a greasy chip when she got out.

My son told me what else she’d been up to and I fired her.

I hope she was going to wash her hair and wet it first in the bath water before she noticed Grin

Fill the bottle with something cheap and keep your own bottle hidden or in your room! I really don't like when people use your things without asking. One Christmas I had a party and a friends byf decided to help himself to DH's toiletries. Used his deodorant and aftershave. It was really weird as he told us he used them as soon as he came back down, as he complemented DH on his nice smelling aftershave. It was the first time I had met him! Glad he didn't stick around for long.

I've hidden my shampoo and conditioner! I also got some petty revenge too... Once he was in the shower, I switched the hot water tap on. He had a very cold shower, I could here him shouting upstairs Grin

A friend at uni put a bodily fluid in his shower gel when he was sick of people using it. He waited months and the announced it to the group. We thought it was this one guy and looked at him during the “announcement” but it turned out to be someone you’d never suspect. There was no way he could deny it after how upset he looked with his head in his hands.

Don’t say anything but fill up the empty bottle with cheap shampoo and glitter....

Then watch and see if he’s using your shampoo 😂

RebeccaBunchLawyer · 08/03/2018 21:34

Empty your good shampoo into one of the cheaper bottles, decant the cheap stuff into your good bottle. Or put water/soap/shaving foam into the good bottle- that’ll put him off/confuse the cf!!

Lashalicious · 09/03/2018 12:45

Agree with Beamur, fill the empty bottle with cheap shampoo and leave it in the shower. Buy yours again and hide it, put it in a bag of shower things to take in and out with you.

Or, take the bottle out completely, and force him to use the perfectly good other 2 men’s shampoos. Either way, keep your bottle with you so that he doesn’t have access to it at all.

Very rude!

Lashalicious · 09/03/2018 12:47

That is interesting Bug....Op, is it possible that your dh is using your good shampoo as he thinks he is entitled to it so that the guest can use his cheaper shampoos?

WhatWouldWallyDO · 09/03/2018 12:54

Don't add dye to it as that could cause a serious allergy or burn the idiot's eyes.

However glitter is a fucking genius idea.

Chrys2017 · 09/03/2018 12:55

Ask him to replace it as he has been using it.

squarecorners · 09/03/2018 17:40

You could be allergic to absolutely anything, including any of the ingredients in the shampoo. If you're going to be a dick and use other people's stuff you take your chance! It's a shampoo in dye anyway so it's not like you're shoving a load of ammonia in there.
And if you're going to be the safety police he could scratch his eyeball with glitter. I'm not against it but I'm just pointing out the flaw in this logic.

"Beamur
Fill up the empty bottle with some cheap shampoo and leave it in the shower. Buy some more and hide it."

Agree with that.

LaContessaDiPlump · 09/03/2018 17:45

Fill up the empty bottle with some cheap shampoo and leave it in the shower. Buy some more and hide it.

Please do this. Extra points if you add a little permanent hair dye to the replacement bottle Grin

Reminds me of when my ex used my expensive shampoo as BUBBLE BATH. Using liberal amounts...

ALongHardWinter · 09/03/2018 18:08

This would annoy me! I used to get this with an exP of mine. I have very thick, quite long hair and I do like to use a good quality shampoo. I noticed that after he'd moved in with me that my shampoo seemed to be disappearing very quickly. I had another bottle of shampoo in the bathroom that I had got for him, nothing cheap and nasty I would add! But no,he had to use my expensive stuff on his practically non-existent hair (had his hair shaved every 6 weeks, number one cut). So I hid my bottle in my bedside cupboard. I suggest you do the same!

ALongHardWinter · 09/03/2018 18:10

Grin at turning the hot water tap on downstairs!

mimibunz · 09/03/2018 18:11

I also splurge on shampoo and would be v annoyed about this!
