Professional make up as a wedding guest?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 08/03/2018 06:51

Is this ok or would it be seen as trying to be too much like the bride/wedding party?

I'm not great at make up, still stuck in a bit of an 80s Rimmell phase but I put a bit on for work so I don't scare anyone on the train 😊.

One of my DD is also not into make up but paid £25 last year for a professional make over for her school prom. She looked amazing, subtle, not over the top.

Thinking of doing the same myself for a friend's wedding in the summer?

Not at all, go for it and feel fab

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 08/03/2018 06:55

Great idea!! Go for it. I would have had mine done for a recent wedding I attended, but due to day and location, it wasn't possible.

I love having my make up done. It makes me feel great.

Rubyslippers7780 · 08/03/2018 06:55

Why not? Just the same as getting your hair done. Go for it.

CheeseGirl4 · 08/03/2018 06:56

Go for it, nobody needs to know you had it done professionally, but even if they did, it's reasonable for wedding guests to want to look their best. It's not like you're wearing a bridesmaid dress!

MamaLupine · 08/03/2018 06:56

Do it! You'll feel great and unless you're carrying a bouquet then I don't think anyone will think you're a bridal party wannabe!

SusanneLinder · 08/03/2018 06:58

I get my make up done for being a guest.

Snowysky20009 · 08/03/2018 07:02

Definitely- why not?

Nocabbageinmyeye · 08/03/2018 07:03

Honestly I have only been to one wedding where I didn't get my make up done. It's a real treat, lasts all day and you feel great. Definitely go for it

RitaMills · 08/03/2018 07:07

Go for it, I’m going to a wedding this weekend and getting my hair and make up done professionally. A few of the guests are actually as it’s a Sunday wedding so there are about 8 of us as the woman doing it doesn’t work Sundays so there has to be enough of us for it to be worth her while to open her shop for us for a few hours.

NoKnownFather · 08/03/2018 07:18

Why not? will give you a boost. Enjoy the wedding.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 08/03/2018 09:05

Fab you've convinced me. It will def be a confidence boost.

I look at photos of me and friends on a night out (all late 40s/early 50s) and they all look so glam .... I look like I'm popping into the office for a bit of overtime.

Prob need to address this one day and perhaps go to a make up counter in a dept store?

Will be mine and DH's first day/night out together in a long time (baby due next month) so really looking forward to getting my hair and make-up done and putting a nice dress on and drinking lots of fizz Grin

Do it!! You can also get makeup lessons or free tips at places like Bobbi brown if you want to learn a bit - just how to do something nice and subtle.

I love makeup and did the makeup for a few of my friends' wedding days (no pressure there then!!). My top tips are:

  • Invest in good quality makeup but esp for foundation and mascara
  • Spend time matching your foundation to your skin
  • Don't just stick to one brand; shop around
  • Use translucent powder on top of your foundation to "set" it in place
  • Liquid or cream blusters can be soft and flattering - I love benetint
  • Eyes are complicated because it depends on shape, setting, colour etc. But if you're going to mix your colours, remember to blend them.
  • Watch out for creamy/liquid eye shadows if you have deep set eyes or any wrinkles - they just smudge off and sit in the wrinkles!!
  • YSL volumising mascara is amazing
  • Learn how to apply eye liner - the Bobbi brown gel ones are amazing as you can smudge them or have them sharp and they don't run - it's worth it. Try resting your elbow on a ledge or table to steady your hand

Whatever you do, have a fab day!

mynameismrbloom · 08/03/2018 09:31

I get professional makeup done for loads of occasions, works Christmas party, birthday parties, always weddings!

If you are in the market for buying make up, you could book at a store that will give you a makeover for £x but then you get that amount off products.

cinderellawantstogototheball · 08/03/2018 09:45

Oh and don't worry about looking overdone - the bride and bridesmaids will usually be well made-up for photographs!

If it helps to give you an idea of what to use/buy, a crop of my eye makeup for a recent wedding that I went to is attached - that's nude/pinky eye shadow swept over the lid, a sort of aubergine shade with a bit of sparkle blended in from halfway along the lid to the outer corner and in the crease of my eyelid, a more sparkly white between crease and brow to lift them a bit, Bobbi brown "violet ink" eye liner on top lids, smudgy black pencil under lower lashes, YSL lengthening mascara (I bloody love the YSL mascaras, either volumising or thickening), and then a tiny bit of white pencil right in the inner corners (by the tear ducts). Takes about ten minutes.

And if you hate this look, it tells you exactly what NOT to buy Grin Grin Grin

Professional make up as a wedding guest?

(If you click on the attachment you can see the actual eyes, not just the fringe Blush)

BubbaLips · 08/03/2018 09:47

my friend gets her make up professionally done everytime she goes to anything. she even got it done to go to a football match with her new boyfriend Confused

Birdsgottafly · 08/03/2018 09:51

Combine it with a spray, nails, lashes and hair and you'd fit right in, here in Liverpool.

In nearly 50 and still do all of the above, as a guest.

Go with whatever look you want and have a great time.

Theresasmayshoes11 · 08/03/2018 09:51

I have never had my makeup done and I dam well will now op if I ever get to another wedding Grin good for you op

BigSandyBalls2015 · 11/03/2018 16:45

Thanks all, you've convinced me to go for it.

And thank you Cinderella for that advice, love the eyes! Just what I'm aiming for.

SandyY2K · 11/03/2018 16:47

No problem with it at all. Go for it.

UrsulaPandress · 11/03/2018 16:47

DD now does my make up if I'm going out and it makes such a difficult deference.

I refuse to remove makeup so one session can last me days Wink

UrsulaPandress · 11/03/2018 16:48

That would be difference of course.

Sigh.

happymummy12345 · 11/03/2018 16:53

I'd say go for it, and I wouldn't have been upset at all if a guest had their makeup done professionally for my wedding, even though I didn't wear any makeup at all on my wedding day because I never wear it.
