To hate hearing my neighbours all the time.

Something that's been getting to me a lot lately. I live in a semi and the walls are so thin.

I can hear them talking, if they raise their voices I can make out a lot of what they're saying. They have doors that slam and as they work shifts this wakes me up at all hours of the morning.

They have a dog that barks a lot. Sometimes it can bark for hours on end when they go out.

They stay up til midnight some nights talking and laughing in their bedroom and it keeps me awake.

There's nothing I can do to stop them as we had an argument a few years back and now they totally blank me when they see me.

There is some light at the end of the tunnel, we are going to be moving within the next couple of years, but can only afford to move to another semi sadly :( Thing is it could just be similar at the next place, or worse could end up with the types that like blasting their music.

Just venting really :( is it normal to be able to hear so much of your neighbours living in a semi? What can I do when moving to try and get good neighbours? I'm sick of hearing shouting all of the time.

I just want a quiet life :( I want to be able to sleep in peace at night it doesn't seem too much to ask.

Each wall we sound proofed was about £800 - this was the best quality sound proofing option we could go for (basically a false wall).

I do sympathise OP, I have had a 1930's and 1960's semi, both with thin walls. 1st neighbours we could hear, rows and regular late at night hovering and DIY. 2nd neighbours we had the pleasure of all night parties and constant door slamming, they used to slam their back door so hard it shook our bed Confused.

We found this little beauty and it honestly saved my sanity:-

Best £50 I ever spent. Takes about a week to get used to but soon DH and I were sleeping right through it. Have a read of the reviews.

Good luck with your house hunting. If you are going to another semi I think it would be worth when viewing that you might want to sound proof before decorating, I'm sure it would be a good investment and give you piece of mind, my ILS have it and I've never heard anything from next door.

Our semi we are connected by hallways and one wall in the kitchen it is the best house design as hardly hear anything

crazycatgal · 16/03/2018 16:27

Why were houses built with so little soundproofing? I can hear literally everything that my next door neighbours do: talking, shouting, child crying and shouting all day, banging, doors slamming, banging plates together. It's driving me insane. We used to have a quiet old man next door but since he died and these idiots moved in my mental heath had just nosedived.

I sympathise, the problem is once you notice the noise you can’t unnoticed it. Hopefully you can move soon.

Ive spent to last two years listening to my neighbours marriage disintegrate. If they’re not screaming at each other they’re running a campaign to annoy the other as much as possible by slamming doors and throwing stuff. they don’t give a toss about the impact there having on all the neighbours, I hope one leaves soon.
