I believe Mexico is In North America..though my friend is adamant it's in South America..
So please let me know who is right.

I think this is largely a political question (and yes text books can be political): for example are ukraine, armenia, georgia etc in Asia or Europe?

I suspect a large portion of Texans would regard Mexico as S. America, but those in NYC would have it as N. America

Is your friend getting confused between North America and the USA?

I always just assumed it was in South America until recently, but then it dawned on me that logically it can't be, because it's attached to the USA and then Central America is beneath it, South America beneath that.

I think people tend to forget that Central America exists, and anything beneath the USA is automatically South America.
