To quit my job tomorrow

loulou82 · 05/03/2018 23:08

I have over 15 years experience in my field that is quite specialist and was poached by this new firm from my last job that I loved but wanted a new challenge.

In the interview I was told I would be driving the business forward with my expertise.

2nd day in new job and I'm told I'm to cold call and develop new business in a totally different field of expertise. Totally mind numbing entry level role which my salary doesn't reflect.

I've lasted 8 months trying to develop this business without success. On the side I was working on a project that will earn the company millions and finally got to present it today, the owner of the company verbally smashed it to pieces in front of everyone. I was devastated.

This is the same boss that said to one of the male staff 'if you sell this item i will personally get Christine Bleekly to suck you off in the town square'

Similar 'bants' fly around the office and I just can't be assed to fight my own company to make them money when I'm also having to listen to this same old shit.

I've worked the full spectrum of "positive and inclusive" to "toxic and alcoholism inducing" and nowhere was as bad as what you describe. I would definitely be looking elsewhere

Appuskidu · 06/03/2018 07:24

Blimey-How awful that you sold your house and moved away for a job where they are so shite! Did you do much research about them before you agreed to go?

flumpybear · 06/03/2018 07:33

Lou
there are many clothing
companies in the midlands - I can think of three Next, Paul Smith and a uniform company in Melbourne near East Midlands airport

I really hope it wasn't one of them, but also hope that means there are loads more locally for you to investigate (literally a million miles from my area of work so I have little idea)

TheMaddHugger · 06/03/2018 08:15

(((Madd Hugs))))) Lou.

Do you think they hired you so you couldn't benefit the other company anymore?

HisBetterHalf · 06/03/2018 08:23

Could your idea (that was smashed) be one that you develop yourself and go self employed?

NurseryFightClub · 06/03/2018 08:24

You've done well to last 8 months, I was hired as a specialist for a company, after two years of them trying to recruit me. I handed notice in on last day of probation as I couldn't take being there another three months. They regret losing me, but I was too demoralised to carry on.
(I was actually approached by my old company and went back to them in an amazing job)

iloveruby · 06/03/2018 09:42

Leave before you get so ground down and demoralised that you struggle to.
Devote your time to networking, job hunting and finding new opportunities. I assume you left your previous job on good terms so use them as a reference.
Don't waste another second if your life on this company.

MereDintofPandiculation · 06/03/2018 09:55

This was the same boss that made us pay for our own Xmas party That's pretty common in public sector. One can't use "taxpayers' money" for making the working environment more pleasant.

But the whole misogyny thing and the rest means that it does make sense to move on. Personally I wouldn't until I had a job lined up, otherwise you'll have to be explaining to prospective employers why you left the job with nowhere to go, and explaining without blaming the company (which never goes down well) or giving the impression you're a difficult employee.

TSSDNCOP · 06/03/2018 18:54

I think it might have looked so in the past, but career breaks are so common now that you barely need mention it. In the clothing job I left after 6 weeks just the mention of the company makes most insiders recoil in horror and ask no further questions.

Arseholes are generally well known in their respective industries. I highly doubt this guys behaviour is confined to your office.

loulou82 · 06/03/2018 19:44

Hi everyone!

So I did it! Yessssss. I will be free in 7 days.

I'm excited for the future and I know I can't go back to corporate rat race slog featuring the same old same old angry red face boss.
Will have a few weeks out, maybe a holiday and then start thinking about next steps. Thanks for everyone's excellent comments, I needed them to fire me up today and know I'm not overreacting.

The clothing industry seems to attract a certain type of male boss. Hugely inflated ego and grossly predatory towards women. Always with a red angry face.

Pricks!

Good for you! Onwards and upwards. Good luck!!

billybagpuss · 06/03/2018 20:01

I do hope you addressed the letter to Mr Red Angry Face Sexist Pig

Well done, good luck for whatever comes next x

Bluelady · 06/03/2018 20:25

That's wonderful. What did Mr RAFSP say?

passthecheese · 06/03/2018 20:26

Well done!

AdoraBell · 06/03/2018 22:16

Well done 👍

SusieOwl4 · 06/03/2018 23:38

Well done ,
You will be fine . Onwards and upwards .

TSSDNCOP · 07/03/2018 10:33

Well done. I used to sit watching my RAFSP tipping into people and daydream that he’d have a stroke and I’d step over his twitching body and flick him a jaunty fuck off.

That’s when I realised I had to leave. I mean, when you’re actually hoping harm on anyone it’s time you’ve hit the bottom.

TSSDNCOP · 07/03/2018 10:35

And make sure you either get all those files related to your idea or if you have to leave them omit the salient detail that actually makes it work.
