Looking for a 'deep clean' cleaner..

LittleMe03 · 05/03/2018 21:11

Me and DP both work long hours and are not home until 6.30pm Monday to Friday and home roughly around 4pm on a Saturday. Both have Sundays every week off.

We both work hard yet money can be tight at times.

I recently have thought about getting a 'deep clean' one of cleaner... basically to do the jobs that if I am honest I can't be bothered to do because I would rather spend time with my family when I am not at work.

We live in a small 2 bedroom house and so in a way I felt embarrassed about doing this. Confused

I have contacted (not by phone but by email or online application forms) 3 different cleaning firms in my area and none of them have got back to me...Confused

Do they think IABU and should just do it myself?

I have this, couple hours every two weeks and it's amazing. We both work full time and got so fed up of spending weekends on chores. We have Molly Maid, I think they are a national franchise, got back quickly

frustratedashell · 05/03/2018 21:15

Hi, I'm a cleaner and it's not an unreasonable request at all. Don't know why they've not got back to you. Maybe you would be better finding an independent cleaner rather than a company. I get quite a bit of work from my local facebook page.

Passmethecrisps · 05/03/2018 21:19

We had this done fairly recently and it was AMAZING.

Small baby and a 5 year old meant the house was just looking a bit crappy and we had guests coming to stay. We found a great woman on gumtree - she came on the Thursday for five hours and on the Friday for three hours. She cleaned, hoovered, mopped and polished three bedrooms, one bathroom and the kitchen in that time. She literally scrubbed my kitchen cabinets with a toothbrush.

We have decided that once I go back to work we will have her back to do a deep clean more regularly.

You maybe need to extend your search

Don’t feel embarrassed or guilty. An alternative would be for you and your partner to make up a rota and divide tasks between you and spread them out over the week. If you can afford a cleaner then go for it!

Oblomov18 · 05/03/2018 21:32

How much does it cost? I want one. A one off, deep, spring clean.

LittleMe03 · 05/03/2018 21:37

Thank you for your replies Smile

I guess I just don't want to appear lazy! Between us all we do keep our little home tidy and relatively clean.

I have recently been thinking about how our kitchen could do with a deep clean and it would be nice for our skirting boards to have a good wash and clean etc.

Me and DP do the basics when we can to make our home look clean and tidy and would be nice to get a good spring clean.

@Oblomov18

I am not sure how much it costs. Each website I looked at was between £11-£15 per hour but that was based on fortnightly cleans.

I would be willing to pay up to £40-£50 for a deep clean, on a fairly clean two bedroom home for say two/three hours for a deep clean? Is this do-able?

I booked one of these services last May. I suffer with sciatica periodically and am fatigued most of the time. Id arranged to spend the day with a friend I dont get to see a lot so I wouldnt be in the way. They were supposed to arrive at 10.30.( to work to 3.30) They turned up at 1pm. No phone call or apology. I read rave reviews and saw the £120 as an investment. I was promised that My house would look brand new and show quality. I wont lie. The bathroom looked amazing. But that was it. They didnt do the living room at all. The doors and handles of my kitchen were done but not the shelves. Id spent time clearing stuff so they could get stuck in and it just wasnt done. I'd spoken to the woman before she turned up and I told her that due to my illness things had been allowed to slide and I was embarrassed. She was very reassuring and said those were her favourite ones to do as she loved to transform the house to how it should be and the look on her clients faces made her so happy. Anyway like I said she turned up over 3 hours late. The girl she had with her walked into my house with a lit fag. She thought i wouldnt be there (though i made it clear to her boss/manager I would be until they arrived). She was also amused by my crutches for some reason. When I got back from the 2 hours rather than planned 5 at my friends and saw just how little had been done I was visibly upset. She "kindly" offered me a £20 discount which I refused. I said i would pay half now and the other half on completion of work. She told me if I didnt pay she would sue me and make sure no one worked for me again. I was in agony and sat down on the stairs. This made her laugh (maybe it made me look weak?) My then 13 year old ds came home from school and witnessed her behaviour towards me. He very bravely told them both to leave the house which they did. They took half the money and I never crossed paths with them again. I think the main one blocked me on fb but when other people were asking for recommedations for similar work lots of people came forward to say theyd been done by these two. They probably started out genuinely enough (my neighbour recommended them to me in glowing terms and was upset when told what had happened) but I think they became greedy and didnt turn down any requests and couldnt make it work time wise. Its really put me off trying again. If anyone offers this service around manchester then please pm me.

@CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese

That is awful Sad they sound like manipulative bullies. They have NO right to say if you should or shouldn't have been in you're own home whether you had originally said you would be there or not, you have every right to be there.

Your DS sounds like such an amazing young man to stand up to them and ask them to leave Smile

Aww thanks Little. He has always stood up for me. Years ago when he was 3 my brother went for me (verbally) at a family do. He was pissed up and did apologise afterwards. Anyway ds marched up to him and just shouted "NO BULLIES ALLOWED UNCLE PAUL! Now say sorry!" He then stood there until satisfied with Uncle Paul's apology. I was so proud. Grin
I digress. Yes they were bullies I suppose. I also discovered afterwards that my 5lr tub of handwash and a special (and expensive forwhat it is) urine deodorising spray went walkies. I'd give it another go but am apprehensive and annoyed I got it so wrong.

Sorka · 05/03/2018 23:02

I did this once. I was hoping my house would be spotless. Had it worked out, I would have had them in from time to time to clean the house.

The cleaner seemed to want a lot of instructions about how to clean. I had booked in for a deep clean and thought asking her to clean my house in exchange for payment was simple enough.

She did some light dusting. She mopped the floors, but not well. There was a bag on the floor and she mopped around it. The bathroom was the last thing to do and after she left I discovered that it was such a poor job that there was still shampoo on the bath.

I had to clean my bathroom again.

Not the easy life improving experience I was hoping for!

Helsingborg · 05/03/2018 23:39

I paid about £200 for a full day deep clean with 2 cleaners. We just had building works done and there was dust everywhere so I called molly maids. The house was sparkling, it was fantastic and I'd definitely get them to do it again.

LittleMe03 · 06/03/2018 09:13

I am going to have a look to see if I can get molly maid in my area. Sounds as thou some of you have had really awful experiences so I would rather go with a recommendation. It sounds as thou a few have few good experiences with molly maid Smile

Filled out a request form on molly maids website so hopefully they will get back to me soon Smile

I did this last month. After a month of sickness and working full time with 2 kids the pace was a tip and it was really getting me done. It was money well spent even though there were elements of the job I wasn't happy with it really got me back on track. I have got a cleaner to come for 2 hours a week from now on to protect my investment and stop it getting so bad again. Go for it and check out Facebook as it'll be cheaper than a company.

astoundedgoat · 06/03/2018 16:34

I would love a sort of "end of tenancy" clean once every couple of months in my flat. Cupboards, fridge, nooks and crannies etc. It would be heaven.

MorningsEleven · 06/03/2018 16:53

I considered it before putting a 3 bed house on the market once. They wanted £200. Apparently they would clean my hard floors twice by vacuuming then mopping. That's cleaning once in my world.

LittleMe03 · 06/03/2018 18:21

Oh that is expensive. I wasn't looking at paying £200 Blush
