Parking too close

Parked car near school and then went for an unplanned in advance play date after school.
Come back and some plonker parked this close to me. Had to get kids in car then pull forward so I had space to open the boot and get the pushchair in.
Parked up about 3pm and was back at the car about 4.30ish.
Would it have killed them to park slightly further back (nothing behind them)?

I'm the silver car. I covered up the reflection of my number plate on their red car.

Would have got an abusive handwritten Note from me. Good job you didn't have anything that close in front.

SundaySalon · 05/03/2018 18:59

Oh what a plebiscite! Was you parked on a road?

SundaySalon · 05/03/2018 18:59

Pleb!
No idea what a plebiscite is Blush

Alloftheboys · 05/03/2018 19:02

Sorry yes was parked on a side road that runs parallel to the road the school is on. It's about a 3 minute walk to the infants school from where I parked.

@Hotel I didn't think about leaving a note but it's probably not a good idea as I park in that street or another for school drop off and pick up. I wouldn't want to come back and find a big scratch down the side or something!

Argh this happened to me once when I parked outside someones house all day - they had a large driveway so I honestly thought it would be ok to park there. I never parked there again, which I assume was what they had hoped for.

hmcAsWas · 05/03/2018 19:06

Grin SundaySalon - its a popular vote of the people on something major (a bit like a referendum)

I expect somebody who lives in that road has parked like that deliberately Alloftheboys - to make it awkward and to make a point (probably one of those people who hates it when you park in front of their house)

SundaySalon · 05/03/2018 19:07

Was there space behind them?
We have a road, a small high street, by us and people literally park bumper to bumper, it’s like an unwritten village rule that you park as close as you can with room to wiggle out so more people can park with minimal walking. The mind boggles.

SundaySalon · 05/03/2018 19:09

I feel I should probably have known this? I am embarrassed to say I just googled it... incase you were having me on. Grin

TresDesolee · 05/03/2018 19:10

Grin That’s ridiculous. I get the hump with people parking outside my house for days on end but i’d never do that to them, let alone someone being there for 90 mins.

Definitely deliberate. I get that it’s a pain being so close to a school but do people not realise this when they buy the houses? (And presumably those with children buy the houses often because of proximity to the school)

Alloftheboys · 05/03/2018 19:15

There was plenty of space behind them. Next car was 2-3ish car lengths away so really no need to park with their nose up my bum!
We have an infant, a junior and a secondary school all next to each other so there is a lot of traffic for a small town to handle but this side street seems ok.

BlondeB83 · 05/03/2018 19:18

Someone is pissed off that their quiet side street is being infiltrated with school traffic.

Coastalcommand · 05/03/2018 19:25

Were they trying to clear a dropped kerb?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 05/03/2018 19:44

There might have been space behind when you returned but when they originally parked they could have been very squeezed to get in. And then the other car left before you returned so you never saw how tight it was.

TruJay · 05/03/2018 19:58

I've had this when I've parked in 'their' space outside their house, I just thought they were a twat, it's just silly!

Alloftheboys · 05/03/2018 20:02

@Costal no dropped kerbs. This was in front of a row of terraced houses.

@Walkingdead I guess there could have been another car that arrived after and left before me. But I don't think red car had to be quite that close. There was centimetres from red car to my bumper. Wouldn't they have had to have a bit of room to manoeuvre into their space?

LouiseH2017 · 05/03/2018 20:03

Maybe there were other cars in the street when they parked and that was the last available space? I can quite easily parallel park my car into a space which is only a few inches bigger than my car (situation probably similar to SundaySalon) and often have no choice but to squeeze into a tiny space.

EvansOvalPies · 05/03/2018 20:30

When you say 'side street' OP - is this a public road governed by the local Council, or is it actually a private road? (I only ask because we live near a school, live on a private road, and have problems with people parking here, when they shouldn't).

If it was a private road, then you should not have parked. If it is a public road, however, then you have every right to park there, providing you're not blocking someone's drive.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 05/03/2018 20:32

Also possibility another car accidentally/deliberately bumped it forward to make space for them to get in/out. I do know people who use that method of parking.

Alloftheboys · 05/03/2018 20:38

@Evans sorry a public road but a very quiet one. Not blocking a drive but probably taken someone's space in front of their house.

OP posts:
SomeKnobend · 05/03/2018 20:46

Did you leave an awkward amount of space in front and/or behind (like not quite enough for a car, but a lot of wasted space) so they were trying to make a point?

MunchMunch · 05/03/2018 21:00

Definitely deliberate and if you are parked legally then it would make park there even more. I would normally just roll over and let everyone walk all over me but after my neighbour done similar to me because I took "her space" outside of a third neighbours house Hmm I decided to take a stand and not let them try to bully and intimidate me to get what they want.

NannyR · 05/03/2018 21:05

I had a parking incident like this once - it turned out that the other driver hadn't put their handbrake on and the car had rolled up to mine. After cursing them and waiting ages for them to return I realised I could push it back! I did leave them a note asking them to check the handbrake/leave it in gear in future.

Alloftheboys · 05/03/2018 21:41

@Some I can't remember if there was a car parked in front when I parked. When I left there was one parked a normal distance in front.

@Nanny I didn't test that theory. I was tempted to give the car a bit of a kick though. Grin
