to not let my 12yr old play GTA?

I can’t find any recent threads in this, is it not really an issue any more?
I remember an outcry when it first came out, with it being full of violence, sexual violence, offensive language etc. But I haven’t heard much said about it for a while.
My 12 yr old wants to play it and my instinct says no.
He tells me everyone else plays it, the language is not so bad, you can avoid the bad bits, etc etc.
It’s hard to read reviews online because some of the seem to have been written by kids parented get t9 be adults, it’s hard to be sure they are genuine reviews.

So am I the worst mother ever to say no to this game?

And do you also ban films, vast numbers of which are many times worse than a game if GTA?

I’m not trying to convert anyone’s decision but just trying to balance the argument that it is a vile game. It’s not for children but to call it vile is extreme.

@HappyStripper There are videos on YouTube about doing stupid stunts, seeing who can freefall from the highest place in the game, killing people who bump into you and make a rude comment, see who can crash their cars and wreck it the most, see who can rob the most stores in a time limit. It’s an open ended world free to do what you want. With your argument I can claim that The Sims 4 is about murder and torture because I saw YouTube videos of people killing their sims.

People saying they played GTA when they were younger and it did them no harm were not playing the new or recent GTA games!

I placed vice city when I was a lot younger, I used to drive around and listen to the radio. That was really about it, but I liked it as a driving game.

I bought the new GTA a couple of months ago and was really really shocked. It has since been sold to CEX because it’s not enjoyable (to me) being so violent and sexually graphic. DP was all smug saying ‘I told you it wasn’t like it used to be hahaha!’ Dick.

It is not appropriate for a 12 year old OP! Not at all!
