My anxiety levels correspond to how much milk is in the fridge

Does anyone else start to get anxious when milk is running low? I can't bear the thought of making a cup of tea and not having enough milk to make it just how I like, or filling a bowl of cereal only to find the milk only reaches half way up the bowl. I now buy in 6 litres of milk at a time to cover all eventualities...

Do you live in a remote place?

Can’t say I get anxious, but we always have a back up in the freezer just in case.

gamerchick · 05/03/2018 15:53

I don’t notice me as I don’t drink tea or coffee. The husband does the anxiety with the milk Grin

letsdolunch321 · 05/03/2018 15:56

My anxiety levels used to rise when I got home from work and all the milk had gone ...... nobody thought to tell me to collect milk on my way home .... GRRRRRRR

That all changed once I started freezing milk.

Bluelonerose · 05/03/2018 15:59

I'm stuck in an endless cycle with dh.
He's constantly drinking it "coz it's there where as I like to have a full 4 pints in to cover breakfasts in the morning.
Dh will think nothing of only leaving 2 pints for 5 people's breakfast Angry

I think if you get anxious like that about milk then you should go to a doctor.

Unless, of course, you live on a remote island and you can't just go and buy some or you have a medical condition that means you need milk in your diet.

SashaGem · 05/03/2018 16:12

Don't drink milk, so no.

There was plenty of milk anxiety in our house while the Beast was in residence. Dh went to the supermarket early on Thursday morning as all the shops were shutting before lunch. No milk. He tried a few other shops. No milk.

That meant we had 1 and a bit litres in the fridge until the shops opened again. I don't take milk in anything so I was fine. Until the kids started using my yoghurt in their many, many bowls of cereal. Then I started to develop yoghurt anxiety but dealt with that by hiding a full tub at the back of the fridge.

There were guards (not armed, but that was the next logical step) on the fridge and anyone who looked like they were tempted to drink a glass of milk (ds2), or eat a massive big bowl of cereal (ds1), or even a smallish but very milky bowl of cereal (dd), at a time other than breakfast, was immediately shopped to a parent.

Thankfully the shops were open again on saturday morning and bloodshed was avoided.

I get a bit fed up, but I only have one or two hot drinks a day and never first thing in the morning so there is time to get some. If no milk for cereal, I get mildly annoyed but just have toast that day.

Having said that, I used to freeze milk when we lived somewhere more prone to bad weather and DD was younger so milk was more important and now I have a fridge in my garage, I buy enough for the week in the weekly shop delivery (to save carrying it) and keep it in the garage fridge.

Upsy1981 · 05/03/2018 17:29

I do get cat food anxiety though. Now that would be a nightmare.

mamahanji · 05/03/2018 17:33

I get milk, bananas, and washing powder anxiety.

mamahanji · 05/03/2018 17:35

Although I have a baby and a preschooler that drink a hell of a lot of milk. And I drink a lot of milk. We do 3-4 pints a day so not having enough milk isn't an option for the kids. I can cope without milk.

CakeOfThePan · 05/03/2018 17:36

Yes i get this!
We had the lightest of sprinkles of snow on thursday, thought "I've plenty of milk in, I've a 4 pint yet to open".
Snow got heavier, i opened said 4 pint. started getting anxious rushed out to get some more......
Ive just put that first 4 pint in the recycling. So i would have been absolutely fine.
I get this about bread, butter and washing powder but mostly milk

thenightsky · 05/03/2018 17:37

My DH starts going on about 'oooh the milk is low' when the massive, biggest bottle you can buy, is missing the top 1/3rd. I don't drink much so don't care. Although, when the snow hit I did get a bit vexed with him and may have even called him selfish when he had a massive bowl of cereal for breakfast two mornings running.

ZzzMarchhare · 05/03/2018 17:50

I do it with petrol- as soon as it beeps I go straight to the petrol station even though I could probably do a few more journeys.
I am also like it with nappies and always have 1-2 packs not opened. The local refuge has benefited from when DSs went up sizes quickly! So they didn’t go to waste but was a bit daft.

UsernameInvalid66 · 05/03/2018 17:52

I don't like milk so I only know we're out of it, or it's gone out of date, if DH remembers to tell me. I can't say it's something I worry about very much. Now coffee on the other hand...

Idontdowindows · 05/03/2018 17:57

We go through a huge amount of milk and years ago I said I'd rather give up smoking than milk.

I don't smoke anymore.

YTho · 05/03/2018 18:02

It just annoys me, we never seem to time it right and regularly run out of milk. Doesn't cause anxiety for me though. I get anxiety due to big unexpected bills or having to dip into my ridiculously tiny savings pot. Which is all the time at the moment.

Vitalogy · 05/03/2018 18:02

I don't like to be short of milk, although now oat milk, cheese, bread and eggs. I didn't bulk buy with the bad weather issue though. I pass by Tesco as I leave work, so that's a comfort blanket Smile

Eatmycheese · 05/03/2018 18:08

You sound like me with gin

Foggymist · 05/03/2018 18:14

Just keep some in the freezer, that way you'll never run out and can have it deliciously ice cold!
