To ask advice on child head injury?

Dd 4 fell off a chair and hit her head on the tiled floor. She won't let me look at her head but I've seen it's bleeding. She's fine in herself, alert non drowsy just very upset and said her head hurts.

So how do I treat this??

She's my 4th child but I've never had bleeding from a head wound before!

I don’t think her “not letting” you look at her head is an option. You need to look at it to see how deep the cut is as it may need stitching.

saoirsesoige · 05/03/2018 11:45

Nobody can tell you how to treat an injury they can't see.

NotTodayBillyRay · 05/03/2018 11:51

Well I know that!

Jeez panicking here and have no one to ask!

Well I've looked as best I can and I think it needs gluing personally, but I've never had to have a child do that either.

We don't have a minor injuries unit, just a&e.

If you know that, what did you ask for? If you think it needs professional advice, go get some.

PanannyPanoo · 05/03/2018 11:55

You could take her the the pharmacy she may let the pharmacist look at her. or in go straight to a+e. If you are worried be unsure then best to go to a+e and let them decide how serious it is.
Head injuries are such a worry.
Hope everything goes well.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/03/2018 11:55

Probably best to get her checked out OP if you think it needs glueing.

Ohyuck2018 · 05/03/2018 11:56

Get to a and e OP. That's what they are there for. Better to get it checked if a good gash and head hurting than leave it and have it end up infected or the like.

Tink2007 · 05/03/2018 11:58

If from what you can see you think it might need gluing best to go off to A&E and they can check her over at the same time.

Idontdowindows · 05/03/2018 11:58

Get it checked. And I'm afraid firm and in control is what you'll need to be here, she doesn't get a say as she isn't old enough to evaluate her own medical situation properly :)

jimijack · 05/03/2018 11:58

Och I know that panic feeling op, it's a shame you have no walk in centre or primary care, minor injuries place. Most a&e places have a kids bit, tend to be a long wait, but marginally better than adult a&e. Sounds like your only option if you think it needs a drop of glue.

Don't worry, little buggers (as you know) scare you to death don't they xxx here, have these Flowers

grasspigeons · 05/03/2018 11:59

can you get her to hold a piece of gauze on it to stop the bleeding if she wont let you touch it, and then take her to A&E to have it looked at. If its bleeding a fair bit rather than a graze she may let you put a bandage round to hold the gauze in place?

NotTodayBillyRay · 05/03/2018 12:03

I'm just waiting on a call back from my gp. DH is on his way home from work to take us to a&e.

I was upstairs when she fell and don't know if she lost consciousness, I just heard screaming. I didn't even think of that until the receptionist asked

Good call, hope she's ok.

Allthebestnamesareused · 05/03/2018 12:17

Some GP surgeries can do stitching so they may ask you to go in.

Also at our local hospital there is a paediatric a&E as well as the regular a&e (in the same section) and so you get through quicker.

My son had a bloody head injury when he was 2 and the nurse at the GP surgery stitched it.

crashbangwhallop · 05/03/2018 12:18

Hope she is okay. With my DS any time he's hurt his head enough to leave any sort of mark or fallen from a height they send you to the hospital just to be safe.
If you're ever unsure just ring 111.
