I’m in a job at the moment which involves a 3 hour daily commute. I do love the job but am tired of the commute. I’ve been there two years.

My previous job was a similar role. I was in it for 18 months and left because the job I’m in now was a step up.

Before that I was in a 1 year contract job, prior to which I was a SAHM for three years. Prior to that I was in the same job for 3.5 years.

Thanks if you’ve stayed with me this far! Anyway I have seen a job in my home town - so no commute, I could walk or cycle - and it’s £5k more pa. Plus the money I’d save on petrol every month. It seems perfect. I’m just worried I’ll look like a job hopper. As I haven’t stayed in last three jobs more than two years.

Will it look awful? Honest views please!

This is an absolute no brainer. Go for the job. I employed staff and yes I do look at Cv’s and if people have hopped around but if there’s good reason then don’t give it a second thought. 3 hours commute. As a mum myself I would seriously re-think that. 100% apply and I hope you get it

Ritzsaltedcrackers · 04/03/2018 17:35

Ah thanks Alis!

There’s absolutely no reason you couldn’t put reason for leaving on your actual CV anyway to alleviate any doubts. By all means put 1 yr contract etc. Don’t overthink it.

Yellowbird54321 · 04/03/2018 17:37

Really do not worry about how it will look - worse case scenario you wont get an interview, so what?
More money / shorter commute you would be crazy not to apply! Plus you have good reasons for the job moves should the interviewers ask about that. Definitely apply - good luck Smile

Alis0902 · 04/03/2018 17:38

You don’t live to work. You work to live and this job sounds perfect as if it’s it made for you and your life. Go for it. Massive good luck. I’m excited for you. You ought to see some of the Cv’s I see. Honestly!

Timeforabiscuit · 04/03/2018 17:39

Absolutely! A crushing commute is definately a good reason, and youve stuck for a year not a few weeks!

Good luck!

MaverickSnoopy · 04/03/2018 17:39

Not these days. Employers want fresh skills. They do want commitment but if you can show your reasoning it's fine. Moving into a new job is also often (although not always) the way to get a payrise these days. Apply.

RainOnATinRoof · 04/03/2018 17:40

I think there's less of an expectation these days that people will stay in the same job for years and years. You really have nothing to lose by applying, and much to gain.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 04/03/2018 17:41

Can you imagine a man worrying about this?

Apply for the job!

Alis0902 · 04/03/2018 17:41

It’s so much better for an employer that you live local. Think of it this way. Your closer to home, if it’s more convenient for you and you’re happy in the job you’re less likely to leave.

Trooperslane2 · 04/03/2018 17:43

Are you joking me?
go for it.

RoryAndLogan · 04/03/2018 17:44

I think it's an older generation thing about not moving jobs often. These days people move around all the time for a number of reasons. I wouldn't let that stop you at all!

Alis0902 · 04/03/2018 17:45

I’m well jealous. I’ve been in my job 15 years. I’m probably selling myself short because I haven’t actually moved on and bettered my salary or career. Unfortunately or fortunately sales is a well paid career but I’m not actually qualified to do Anything else as such so now I either need to retrain or take a pay drop to try something else. I’m a bit stuck I feel.

Alis0902 · 04/03/2018 17:46

I think I need to know if you get it lol

Ritzsaltedcrackers · 04/03/2018 17:55

Right, I’m off to update my CV! Thank you all, you’ve totally boosted my confidence!

Best of luck.
I’m a contractor so don’t stay in a job more than 2 years. It’s not like you

Alis0902 · 04/03/2018 18:26

What type of contractor?

pilates · 04/03/2018 18:28

Good luck, hope you get it

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 04/03/2018 18:32

Go for it 6 months is considered job hopping not 2 years. Good luck.

Polarbearflavour · 04/03/2018 18:39

Contracting isn’t job hopping. Go for it!

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 20/03/2018 08:16

Agreed contract isn't job hopping I meant non contract sorry. Hope you find something closer to home OP.

DarkRoomDarren · 20/03/2018 08:18

Yes! No brainer.

Everyone is a job hopper these days anyway. It’s the modern way!
