Just made my dd a bottle of formula.. thought I shook it properly but as I was feeding her I noticed a large lump of not dissolved properly milk slide down the bottle. She is 4 weeks old and I'm very sleep deprived. Have I poisoned my child?

How much has she had? I'm sure she is fine. If she hasn't taken much I would probably just make up a new bottle, or keep shaking it until it has dissolved Grin

Fattymcfaterson · 04/03/2018 15:53

No you haven't poisoned her.

Yarboosucks · 04/03/2018 15:53

No, you have not poisoned your child!

ineedamoreadultieradult · 04/03/2018 15:53

Nope you haven't it just means the milk she drank would have been slightly more watery than it should have been. No harm done she just might get hungry again earlier than usual.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 04/03/2018 15:57

No you haven’t poisoned her. Relax! The human race has survived much worse!!! But I do appreciate the anxiety that protecting a new born induces.

Princess9891 · 04/03/2018 15:58

She had about 1.5 oz before I noticed. Made a fresh one now and was extra vigilant with shaking. Thanks guys you wouldn't think she was my third!

Nope it might be a bit weaker than normal so baby might get the hungry earlier

It might interest you to know that many many moons ago the reccomendation for constipated babies who refused water was to add an extra oz of water to the formula occasionally

CrazyFolkTale · 04/03/2018 16:10

How would that be poison? Confused

Oysterbabe · 04/03/2018 16:13

How would that be poison?
I guess it wouldn't have been properly sterilised by the hot water if it was still in a glob?
I'm sure she'll be fine. Did you make up the bottle as per the recommendation, using very hot water then cooling it?

Thesmallthings · 04/03/2018 16:14

She'll be fine. The worst that will happen is she may have runnier poo

It was advices to give alittle extra water if they was constipated back 9 years ago.

But you won't have harmed her x

Princess9891 · 04/03/2018 16:17

Sorry poison was probably the wrong word but I was feeling a bit panicked! Sorry! Thanks for the reassurance everyone

You and she will be fine

ButtMuncher · 04/03/2018 16:21

No poisoning don't worry OP. I'm afraid there will be plenty of sleep deprived moments - my favourite was waking up on a lie in day and couldn't find my DS in the cot - I panicked and cried and was about to phone 999 before I realised I'd just woken up and my DH was downstairs with my then 2 month old. The struggle is real! I've also had nursery rhymes in my head for days when my sleep deprived brain won't switch off!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/03/2018 16:42

Congratulations on new wee baby. And yup sleep deprivation is rotten
No you’ll not have caused any harm, you’re tired and it seems worse because of that

andijustthought · 04/03/2018 16:44

Eh? Hmm

Of course you haven't

CaMePlaitPas · 04/03/2018 17:01

Lol oh dear - this happens to the best of us. She hasn't been poisoned, she'll be fine.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/03/2018 17:13

Changing my new baby in dark had struggle with babygro. I was so worried I’d broken a limb that I checked, rechecked.stayed up all night hanging over cot.just in case

Of course baby ok and unharmed
In my sleep deprived panic I convinced myself I’d broken a limb

Talkingfrog · 04/03/2018 17:44

When dd was little and stayed with my mum, I explained how to mix up the bottle, and that the container had a measure one bottle in each of the three sections.

When she made the bottle she put all three measures in. The milk would have been so thick, I am amazed it got through the hole in the teat!
Dd was fine. I just balanced it out over the bottles for the rest of the day and the next day so she had the right amount of powder for the water used over the two days.

She was horrified when she realised and kept asking over the next day if she was fine, which of course she was.
