Re age ratings and the Odeon

I went to the cinema yesterday to watch Ladybird (15)

They’re were a group of girls in their who were clearly not 15 (11/12) at the most

They were behaved and quiet so I didn’t think much of it. But when I left I mentioned it to the cinema/ticket person as they clearly weren’t 15.

He said it happens all the time as underage people just buy tickets for something else and then once they’re past the ticket point just go into an different screen and watch a different movie.

Surely there should be someone checking outside the screen doors?

I’m only thinking about it because I had a mate who snuck into a screening for a horror film at 12 and had horrendous anxiety and nightmares for about a year afterwards. Don’t the cinema have to make sure that the age ratings are being adhered to?

It’s the personal responsibility of the individual. The film’s been given a rating, if kids can cheat the system and ignore the rating then they get what’s coming to them.

I think it's parents responsibility. It doesn't make business sense to have a member of staff stood on all doors checking tickets of children.

Tbh, if being terrified for a year helps them learn a lesson then they won't do it again.

Never would have occurred to me to go into a different film to the one I'd paid for 🤔 there's a limit to the cinemas responsibility though I think. They wouldn't sell them tickets for the film, I'm not convinced it's reasonable for them to have to increase their staffing levels to stop people doing this.

I noticed the lack of staff at the Vue the last time i was there. Even joked to my friend that we could have snuck in and watched another movie. However at my local independant cinema they have staff at each door checking tickets which i think is better.

dementedpixie · 04/03/2018 09:05

They won't have the staff to stand at every screen door. Our cinema has 10 screens! Tickets are just checked by one person before you get to the general hallway area where the screen doors are. In their eyes they have done nothing wrong as they have sold the appropriate ticket for the age of the child

Reboot, yes could easily finish one film and then walk into another! Nobody is upstairs at all. All staff downstairs.

Don’t get me started on the people who pay for normal seats and then move to the premier seats once the film starts!

They didn't do you any harm so why bother? Not your kids so not your business. What did you hope to achieve?

StickyPopcorn · 04/03/2018 09:08

I hoped to find out if they knew that underage kids were watching films they shouldn’t.?

I would’ve loved to take DD with me yesterday but didn’t.

And?...

noenergy · 04/03/2018 09:19

I thought odeon gave a seat number on the ticket?
Haven't been to the cinema in a while so could b wrong

LostInShoebiz · 04/03/2018 09:48

They do give allocated seats but some people just take a gamble and move to a better seat regardless. Then they irritate the shit out of everyone by feigning ignorance when the correct ticket holders turn up and want their places.

My daughter & I couldn’t get into A Star is Born today with pre paid tickets - it’s a 15, she’s 12 & I’m her mother for heaven’s sake. We got a full refund but seriously; get a grip.
