Wrong postcode right street? Help

allthegoodnameshadgone · 03/03/2018 16:47

I ordered an item from abroad and I have stupidly put my street name and my
Mums postcode.

Item is already in transit.
I've emailed the company who have said they will try and sort it.

I'm such a dick. It's an item worth £100.

Is there anything I can do?
Will it get returned to sender? It's DHL. Should I contact DHL? Will then even listen as I am not the sender?

I know the only thing unreasonable about this is my attention to detail when checking delivery address but i am
Posting for traffic.

So you and your mum live in the same street but with different postcodes?

PuppyMonkey · 03/03/2018 17:22

Are you and your mum even in the same city/town? If try ringing DHL and see what they advise. Nothing to lose.

SoupDragon · 03/03/2018 17:25

Assuming the road names are completely different, I think it will be delivered to your road name.

CuboidalSlipshoddy · 03/03/2018 17:27

It'll go to the sorting office associated with the postcode, but with luck they'll realise it's not for them, and then it'll probably make a trip back to you based on ignoring the postcode and routing on street name and city name.

allthegoodnameshadgone · 03/03/2018 17:32

I've put my house number and road name then her postcode.

I have done exactly this, it was all fine, they ignored the postcode and it was delivered to my address. Hope it arrives!

Caulk · 03/03/2018 18:22

I’d drop a note through the door of your house number at that postcode (or get your mum to) just incase if goes there instead, telling them the mistake.

cosmonautkitten · 03/03/2018 19:25

My grandmother is always putting random postcodes on letters she sends to me (despite correction) and I've still received them all without problems. Have you put the rest of your address on it - ie town name and county or was it just street name and postcode? If the former, try not to worry about it!

allthegoodnameshadgone · 03/03/2018 19:38

I put....obv not my real address below

50 whereilive Road
County
Mums postcode

It's the same city we are within a mile of each other.

I think it'll still come to you. Here's hoping!

SingingOutOfTune · 03/03/2018 22:27

Coincidence got something delivered today that had someone's else name but my address. A package. No return address. Long shot I know but give me your initials or maybe your mum postcode? Might be yoursSmile.

SingingOutOfTune · 03/03/2018 22:30

Sorry disregard previous message. Not from DHL.

Poshjock · 03/03/2018 22:34

I have done this too. I also live in same town as my dad and our postcodes are similar. Item was sent through RM and arrived at my home address without any issues.

Good luck!

Rosamund1 · 03/03/2018 23:15

Sorry to say, I did this onece, soon after moving house (i.e. new address, old postcode, within a few miles). The item was returned to sender and I had to pay for redelivery (‘different address’) and I only got it after I needed it.

ToadOfSadness · 03/03/2018 23:21

Sorry but my experiences with DHL indicate that even with the correct address and postcode it will still go to someone else's address. If the driver doesn't find it within a second of arriving in the area he will dump it at the nearest restaurant, or leave random card and take it away for re-delivery, the reference no. for arranging delivery will have no connection to the parcel at all and will be a collection point in a shop at the opposite end of the country and it will show as already being picked up when you look online.

Good luck.

guest477337 · 03/03/2018 23:25

I work for a courier company. It's likely it'll be returned to sender but this can take months.

They may attempt to deliver to your mum or you, if it's tracked ring them and they should sort it for you.

Hope you get the parcel

swapsicles · 03/03/2018 23:29

If they are like dpd on the day you'll get a text saying when they'll deliver it, from there you can rearrange to a different address/pick up.
Hopefully it'll be as simple as just changing the address on the day of delivery :)

Guest0925 · 03/03/2018 23:30

I’ve done this with Amazon too many times in error. They haven’t been impressed and it delayed a few deliveries but nothings ever went back to sender

ElenOfTheWays · 04/03/2018 00:08

I think with DHL you can contact them and arrange for the parcel to be left at a pick up point for collection. Might be worth trying this.

CoffeenoTea · 04/03/2018 00:12

If it has a tracking number it will be easy to sort out. of not you have to hope it will be returned to sender.

allthegoodnameshadgone · 04/03/2018 11:53

I've dropped them an email with the details,
Tracking number etc. I will give them a call in the morning
