Not AIBU, but need high traffic so here goes...

Husband has been unsatisfied in his job for a while now and looking for a career change and he wants to set up his own business.
He has always wanted to run a campsite kind of thing and has recently got into the tiny house craze.

So i was wondering would people like to stay in tiny houses? An alternative to camping pods, so you get a bit of home comforts while still kind of camping haha/

Dog friendly? That is our main sticking point for holiday accommodation!

LoniceraJaponica · 03/03/2018 16:30

Have you seen these?

Thistlebelle · 03/03/2018 16:31

We’ve stayed in something similar for a night in our way somewhere else.

For a family of four it was fine for a night but might have been testing for more than a few days.

For a couple it would be fine.

You might want to consider building an under cover communal space that your visitors could use in bad weather to avoid cabin fever.

The best campsites we have stayed in have had this sort of arrangement.

Sealant · 03/03/2018 16:35

I’ve actually just booked to stay somewhere similar new new forest. abnb.me/cMzzc5voZK

janetlane · 03/03/2018 16:35

yes we have lonicerajaponica they do look nice, however hubby wants them to be a bit nicer / better decorated / more personal. Also ever so slightly bigger.

Yes dogs would be allowed as long as not a hundred and one dalmations GarkandGookin

they're hugely popular near me in Scotland... the owners are always fully booked even in winter months.. Flowers

janetlane · 03/03/2018 16:38

thanks thistlebelle lovely idea. I presume you stayed in a camping pod but without its own showers?
If you google tiny houses we are aiming for more that look then a pod.

janetlane · 03/03/2018 16:39

Gemini69 good to hear, they're camping pods right? we are more tiny house orientated at the moment, but i may persuade hubby to go camping pod with own toilet if more popular?

A Yurt, yes. Treehouse, yes.. Tiny house, no.

Tiny houses are like caravans where everything has a dual purpose so you would always be folding out, folding in, lowering a bed, lifting a bed etc etc. I don't want to do that on holiday. I want space to sit and relax and watch the world go by. And a proper loo - not one where everyone can here every little sound ... Hmm

GrannyGrissle · 03/03/2018 16:42

We'll DD manage quite successfully to live in our tiddly 2 up 2 down and people take narrow boat holidays?

FeedtheTree · 03/03/2018 16:43

Also, have you seen this? It seems people who have already built their own tiny houses are desperate for land to stick them on. he might not need to build lots of his own. Just advertise as a tiny house site. If you're in Snowdonia with village facilities nearby, I bet you'd be inundated. And you already have the land.

LadyFlumpalot · 03/03/2018 16:45

Will you be ready by summer? Grin DH and I are planning a Snowdon climb and looking for places to camp nearby and just last week I suggested to him that I'd rather a cottage if we will be walking loads. A TinyHouse sounds ideal!

Doubletrouble99 · 03/03/2018 16:46

Have you looked into the planning implications of building permanent structures as apposed to mobile units?

falsepriest · 03/03/2018 16:47

Sounds great!

thecatsthecats · 03/03/2018 16:49

My old music teacher had the most adorable tiny house. It had a shower room, separate kitchen with cute dining space, a lounge, and a stair up to the attic double bedroom.

I would love the bijou smallness of it provided that the shower wasn't titchy. It gives the closeness to nature/casual feel of camping without the lack of home comfortable.

I'd love to retire to something that size to be honest!

Doubletrouble99 · 03/03/2018 16:49

Sorry, just seen FeedtheTree's link and can see they have wheels.

dingdongdigeridoo · 03/03/2018 16:51

Tiny houses are cool! I've always been fascinated by them, and would live in one if I was free and single. I don't think the glamping craze is going away any time soon, and UK holidays are becoming more popular.

Can you add something unique like a wood fired hot tub? Or fire pits for cooking? That kind of stuff would make it more interesting to me.

Earlyup · 03/03/2018 16:51

Sounds like a great location. I've done lots of camping but prefer a bit more comfort, although simple permanent pods which don't need putting up (in the Welsh rain?!) are enough. Tiny houses sound good as a way to get a house, but too much like a caravan otherwise? I think there has to be something a bit special. Presumably you might be appealing to walkers who might be out a lot anyway?

Anything allowing a tall person to stand up makes a difference. Obviously (!) power sockets and a big bed that could accommodate at least two people or one plus toddler (hate when only twin beds or bunks) would be selling points for me.

Assburgers · 03/03/2018 16:54

Sounds good. By the sounds of the location, you’d be attracting walkers, so make sure the tiny house includes somewhere to dry boots / hang raincoats.

gillybeanz · 03/03/2018 16:55

I want a colourful version of this Grin

SlackPanther · 03/03/2018 16:56

For thes

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 03/03/2018 16:56

We would totally love that for a family holiday with the 2 DCs. Please do some family friendly ones with nice private facilities even if they are very tiny- warm, comfortable glamping with own shower and loo in Snowdonia would be totally perfect. Smile

Ellybellyboo · 03/03/2018 16:56

Yes, I would

We have a site here with tiny houses. They’re very popular and get booked up quickly.

They also have Airstreams which are cool.

There is another site with eco lodges which are also extremely popular

LillianGish · 03/03/2018 16:58

I think a tiny house in a city (where lots of people live in small spaces) is great - personally I’d be looking for a bit more space in Snowdonia, otherwise you might as well be in in a caravan.
