or an engineered row? I can't believe such a fuss over nothing.

A teacher from school has a daughter in DD's class.

She posted a heads up in the closed FB class group on Thursday evening that school was to be closed on Friday and the open morning on Saturday was to be cancelled. But we should wait for the official announcement from the school.

I was in the middle of a text conversation with a friend when this notification arrived and I told her the news.

She then posted on her FB page the news. I didn't know she had done this.

Then she texted me to ask where I got the news from. I didn't want to say in case the teacher got into trouble for releasing information before the official school tweet and email came out.

Friend badgered me so I told her the teacher's name and then friend then wanted me to screenshot the post to show her friend, another teacher at the school who is not part of the closed FB group. I don't know why..

I refused to do this in case the teacher got into any trouble for releasing news before the official release.

This friend then calls me up, furious that I won’t send her a screenshot. Asks me if I am a fucking liar and that it didn't really happen? And that if she can’t prove the source then she could be in trouble herself. And that I was paranoid. I put the phone down on her because I couldn't believe such anger and indignant.

The school then released the news on Twitter and FB like 15 minutes later.

Is this bizarre? I'm really put off this friend by her strange anger. Our children are friends and they do one after school activity together which involves lifts and alternating meals. I'd really like to extricate myself from any arrangement with her because of this.

The way she spoke to you is grounds enough to withdraw from any lift sharing. She sounds barking.
I'd let her know that I would not be available for lift shares etc in future and then block her number.

Bizarre, but a lot of people have been behaving strangely lately. It would be a shame for your dd to miss out on the activity/friendship so I would stick with being distantly civil to your friend until it all blows over

Cobblersandhogwash · 03/03/2018 13:51

The way she spoke to me was so disrespectful. Like she was really angry I hadn't done exactly as she wanted. I was shocked. We've had no contact since.

I don't know why pp have said to maintain civil relations. Ther's no way I'd accept being called a fucking liar and still speak to her.
Your kids can still be friends. You don't have to put up with abuse for that to happen.

ScreamingLevitation · 03/03/2018 13:57

I said distantly civil, for dd's sake. Not actively rude, but zero unnecessary communication.

MavisPike · 03/03/2018 13:57

walk away
some people are not worth the agro

MorningsEleven · 03/03/2018 14:03

Yup. Personally I'd avoid posting anything on a closed FB page about school. Someone on ours posted last week that she'd been into school and there was no heating because the boiler had been switched off. Seemingly the school were alerted to this and called her at home to ask her to change it. The boiler had been off and what she said was fine but the school don't want complaints.

DeathStare · 03/03/2018 14:04

I think she probably had someone putting pressure on her to tell her where this information had come from (the other teacher possibly?)

However the way she spoke to you was completely unacceptable. It sounds like she wanted to prove herself "right" to this other person, and was quite prepared to treat you like shit in order to do so.

TBH I'd be upfront with her and tell her that the way she spoke to you was completely out of order and see what her reaction is.

Cobblersandhogwash · 03/03/2018 20:27

Yes. I think you're right. She shouldn't have posted it on social media and her teacher friend probably got worried that the school would think she was the source.

I still think she's barmy. And will just totally detach.

Bit awkward too as out dhs are reasonably friendly. Dh says he can't really be pally after this horrible episode.

She was ridiculous but then you shouldn't a) have told her the news from the closed group and b) certainly shouldn't have given the teacher's name after she "badgered" you.

You were unreasonable, she was ultra unreasonable.

MarthasGinYard · 06/03/2018 08:35

Keep it buttoned in future.

Cobblersandhogwash · 06/03/2018 08:45

You're right. I will keep my trap shut in Future about all stuff even minor stuff like this.

Who knew an FB post about a school closing because of the snow could cause such a vicious response?
