How legal is this?

DD Works in a bar which requires shorts and bare legs as uniform. Last night she was working as was told to go outside with a coat on (but still was in shorts with bare legs) to hand out promotional vouchers for the bar while it was snowing.

She’s just told me this, she isn’t planning on saying anything. But I’m annoyed a bit. I know she’s an adult, I’m not trying to run her life or make her do anything but how is her workplace allowed to send her out in shorts in the snow??

OP, I have three DDs, two of them in their late teens, one working in a bar as I mentioned, and if they described a work place like you have I would tell them to run a fucking mile. What you are describing is distinctly iffy and tawdry. If you don't like the truth, don't post in AIBU.

Yknow I was gonna advise... until the word stripper was used in such a negative light. Hmm

Bluntness100 · 03/03/2018 15:27

I wouldn't have an issue with my daughter working someplace like this. I'd rather she didn't but I did some promo and flyer girl work when I was young. No biggie and was fun.

I wouldn't be however telling myself it was because of her fab personality. If she has to be scantily clad, it's all women staff and strict rules need to be in place, then clearly there is more to it than you're a great person

The only thing I can't understand is the ops statement that most of the staff are overweight, that's unusual and makes it sound like some form of fetish bar. I'm not really familiar with any bar chains that employ predominantly overweight women who have to be half naked, but I guess they must exist.

Confusedbeetle · 03/03/2018 15:31

I think I would not want my daughter to work in such a place

pasturesgreen · 03/03/2018 15:36

Their personalities got them the job thanks

Course they did Hmm

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 03/03/2018 15:39

Nobody has called your daughter a stripper, but she does work at a bar, where the whole point of it's environment is to objectify women.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 03/03/2018 15:39

Surely that's not a shock to you?

GrannyGrissle · 03/03/2018 15:48

If it was personalities that got the girls the job then no one will mind them chucking on some thermals and ski pants.

TheQueef · 03/03/2018 15:51

That escalated quickly.

VladmirsPoutine · 03/03/2018 15:51

You really seem to have missed the point that all posters have made. No-one is calling your dd a striper.

VladmirsPoutine · 03/03/2018 15:52

*stripper.

VladmirsPoutine · 03/03/2018 15:53

So it's a place staffed by only women that requires shorts and bare legs as uniform yet her "personality" got her the job. Righto.

Pereie · 03/03/2018 16:00

If your daughter was a stripper there is no way she would be freezing in the street handing out flyers. She would be nice and cosy in a warm club... maybe she does need a new job?
