Legoland tips please!

Not an AIBU but posting here for traffic :)

We have had a last minute decision to go to legoland in the April school holidays. We’ll be going with a 5 year old and a 15 month old baby.
I don’t know where to start with the planning? A bit overwhelmed to be honest Blush

We don’t want to stay at the resort as it’ll be too expensive. Any suggestions on where to stay?
Also, I don’t know how many days we will actually need to cover legoland... I’m guessing 1 day isn’t enough?

And where do we buy the tickets? From their website or are there any better deals out there?

The only thing I know is that I need to get the Q bots :)

TIA!!

Get a Q Bot

Get a Q Bot

Get a Q Bot Grin

We usually buy off the website, you can get good deals, like free child's ticket with an adults ticket, but often you can't use them online so you have a big queue when you get there.

You can probably manage most stuff in a single day if you have a Q Bot, but 2 days makes for a much more relaxed trip. I've only ever stayed at the resort but on the website they have a list of hotels close by.

We got a deal through Legoland last August 2 days park entry and 1 night in a hotel stayed in holiday Inn near reading (I think) it was under £185 for the 4 of us.
We didn't bother with Qbots the only ride we waited over an hour for was the new Ninjargo one.
Park doesn't open til 10 but you can arrive from 9 I believe and the Legoland mini village is open so we looked round that one morning and the stars wars exhibit the other.

Go to travel and the days out section on here and look for the annual legoland threads - loads and loads of advice there.

Vibe2018 · 02/03/2018 20:45

If you go when the schools are on holidays the queues are a nightmare (unless you have an expensive q-bot). You might spend 1 hour or longer queuing for something that lasts two minutes and is not that amazing. Its a totally different experience during term time.

Two days is better if you can manage it.

Its quite a money grabbing place but is also fun.

Read the reviews on trip advisor for a reality check.

We got a qbot and did it all in a day.

This might not be helpful to say but if you can go on a weekday in term time it's brilliant. We've made it an inset day treat on a number of occasions and had a great time. Barely any queues for anything. Twice I've booked a weekend deal and then cancelled it (at no cost) because I couldn't face it. Others manage of course but I can't bear traffic and crowds and son is ASD so I didn't feel confident we'd cope. There are some great 2 day deals with nearby hotels (have a look on the website) though if you're up for it. Depends also how far away you live. We can make it ok for a daytrip but always arrive really early and leave late. We have a packed tea in the car before leaving as there are queues to get out. I'd also say take as much of your own food and drink as you can as its expensive. It's fun though. Kind of.

Drop a pin on the location of your car via the maps app on your phone when you park

It will forever perplex me as to why people “post in AIBU for traffic” when Chat, a section that covers absolutely everything, receives just as much, if not more, traffic.

And yes, I’m aware this is off topic. But so is the thread so I guess we match.

AppleCrumbleCake · 02/03/2018 20:59

Get there before it opens and once you’re in the park, head for the furthest part and work your way back towards the entrance - we did this and didn’t need to use our qbot till the afternoon

underneaththeash · 02/03/2018 21:41

Q boys are good.

Measure your children before they go so you can warm them (or avoid) rides they're too small for.

Your 15mo will love the smaller splash park, so if you can fit in waterproofs and wellies - he'll have a lovely time and the playground be t door will be good for both of them. There are lockers there too, do you don't need to carry stuff around with you.
If the weather is okay, bring a picnic to eat at the same time as watching the pirate show. The food in the park is very average.
Warn your 15mo that there will be "hot stuff" i.e. Fire in the 4dcinema. It's very tame...but seems to alarm anyone under 2.
we live nearby, so I don't have any recommendations on where to stay, but somewhere in Windsor best. Slough is also nearby but is really horrible.

We stayed in the macdonald chain hotel in ascot/sunningdale as part of a Legoland deal. It was nice, but lots of baby unfriendly sharp glass corners on the furniture. DD1 and DP made use of the pool. Pizza Express in Ascot was good for affordable, child-friendly eating out.

We went with a 5yo and a baby. Be warned that the Legoland buggies are just plastic buckets on wheels. They don't have rain/sun covers, padding or a proper harness. We made do, though, and it was handy to be able to put DD1 in when she got tired.

Bring swimwear for the splashpark. Don't rule out the "baby" area. It was quieter, and DD1 (then 5yo) liked it - especially the little puppet theatre. The driving school was good too.

We brought a packed lunch on the second day as the eating areas were overpriced and a bit crap.

The waterpark won't be open in easter, it wasn't last year. We went 3 times last easter hols and kids got on most rides within 30 mins. We have merlin passes but I think you can get 2 4 1s on cereal boxes or sweet bags.

We always take our tourer so a weeks stay in Taplow costs around £190. Take packing up and drinks. Don't buy Lego in the shops (unless it's a park exclusive) as always better deals online for the same sets.

Imustbemad00 · 03/03/2018 17:15

I go every year and have never paid for it as use the sun newspaper codes. Always do it in a day. I always go on a school day and even then it is always ridiculously busy and I don’t enjoy it. I go for the kids and because it’s free but I wouldn’t pay for it. I get the cheaper q bot and even with that still feel like I’m queuing all day, and it doesn’t cover all rides. I think chessington is much better for younger ones but if you’ve never been legoland it’s one to tick of the list and the kids will love it.

bookmum08 · 03/03/2018 17:24

I am a Lego obsessed person but I wouldn't go with children that young. Take the five year old to a Lego Store instead to choose a new set. It will be The Best shopping trip the child has ever had.

MumNeedsTea · 03/03/2018 21:25

Thanks for all the tips so far!!

Butchmanda that’s actually a great tip! We do have 2 inset days in May so I’m actually thinking of going then and doing something else in April :)
