So not really aibu but could do with some fairly quick advice please.

We are in about 10cm of snow and nobody has been driving on the road outside our house since early yesterday apart from a couple of tractors and a huge black pickup 4x4 a few times.

Just been to check on our animals and found a bag half buried in the snow by one of the gates that run along the boundary to the road. Thought it was a head collar otherwise I probably wouldn’t have noticed it.

It must’ve have been there since last night maybe a bit longer as there is some cover by the trees.

Looked in the bag and there is nothing in it at all. It is in really good condition but not brand new. It is black and a sort of back pack/hand bag.

The police are massively overstretched with the bad weather here.

So the advice I need is what should I do with the bag? Should I 101 it? Or local Facebook page? Hang it back on gate? Or just throw it?

I will check later when the snow has cleared a bit to see if there is anything else out there.

What if it was a bag from... A TIME TRAVELLER?!!

My local police have an on line enquiry system where they respond within 5 days. Maybe yours has the same? This way your police can check it out when they’ve got more time.

Often empty bags that have been discarded are what a burglar has used to carry stuff out of someone's home. They don't bring their own bags, just nick something from the house along with the goods.

Problem is, an empty bag in snow probably doesn't have usable fingerprints on anymore so calling the police likely won't do much good. Might be worth calling them to find out though. They may think differently.

I actually would log it with police. Not so much as lost property but more it might be a clue in some kind of case. Like PP has said maybe it was snatched then the contents emptied. Or, as I read way too many murder novels, perhaps the murderer snatched it off their victim before abducting them and therefore it might have some of their DNA on it or give a clue as to where the abducted was last seen alive :P
