Posting here for traffic. DH driving me mad with his constant “accidents” that end up with “mysterious”chips out of the white paintwork. Anyone got any tips for a quick cosmetic repair to make them less noticeable?

YetAnotherUser · 02/03/2018 12:30

Have you tried paint?

birdling · 02/03/2018 12:33

Tippex?

Littlepleasures · 02/03/2018 12:35

Did think of paint, yes, but would need to go out and buy some specially. Just seemed a bit of a waste to buy a whole tin when I only need tiny amounts. Anyone used any ingenious alternatives.

I bought a tiny tin oh high gloss white paint from Poundland, and a small angled brush, to touch up scuffs on our white skirting boards.

Littlepleasures · 02/03/2018 12:38

Thanks birdling. Good idea.

Just sand the edges of the chip a bit first

Thanks AmiU. I’ve always thought there was a gap in the market for some small touch up set. They don’t seem to sell tiny match pots in gloss.

Last time it was decorated, I got the decorator to put some gloss in a small Tupperware tub for me to use for chips, but can’t find it anywhere.

Won't tippex be matt though, you will notice the difference next to gloss.

You can get gloss spray paint. Worth a try?

There is no shortcut way of doing this without it looking terrible. if there are multiple chips or damage is frequent it needs to be repaired properly or there will be obvious repairs all over the place. Take the pain and buy the right kit once and save faffing around in the future. Gloss is applied thick and chips can't be painted over without the missing paint still being visible so they need to be filled

Buy:
The smallest tin of the exact same gloss paint that was used, or it may show - shouldn't be more than £15-£20
A small tub of OneFill for £7
A sheet of 180 sandpaper
A small flexible filling knife

This lot will set you back about £30 and last you for a long time, useful if yer man is constantly doing damage

Sand the edges of the chip till they are smooth
Fill with the OneFill
Wait to dry and sand it smooth
Paint

The entire operation should take between 3 and 5 minutes depending on experience (not including drying time)

Tipex! FFS.

Tippex works well on white goods chips, though. 😁
