I was shocked to read that 37% of people in the UK are below the poverty line, many having to choose between essential food items over hygiene. That 1 in 10 girls are missing school due to being unable to afford sanitary protection.

When I give to my local food bank in future I shall also add toiletries to the list.

Does anyone know if foodbanks will accept opened boxes of tampons? Or anywhere else that would use them

Caught short last week (normally use a mooncup) and had to buy a box of 16 but only used one.

QueenOfIce · 02/03/2018 11:58

Good question Olga, I would think your local homeless shelter might accept them.

My local food bank is currently asking for toilet rolls, shower gel, deodorant, sanitary products, toothpaste and tooth brushes and nappies. Can you imagine not having nappies, San pro or toilet roll? There's somethibg seriously wrong with the system when a wealthy country has people who can't buy the basics.

Queen Twitter could be a good idea? I don't have an account and have come off Facebook due to feeling the need to give most people I know on there a good slap 😊

I've emailed the Trussell Trust Hope, I don't have Facebook either but I do have twatter Grin I'm guessing they have probably already thought of it though.

I agree with AuntieStella that a monetary donation is probably most useful, particularly if you give it via a 'gift aidable' system eg JustGiving.
But I also occasionally put a few things in the FoodBank collection point at the supermarket, mainly so that my DD can see that 'this is what we do' and that giving becomes a normal behaviour for her.

Boots and superdrug??? Still massively overpriced. Decent stuff available for much less.
