to have insisted on referral to breast clinic?

I noticed a dimpling on one of my breasts when I wasn’t pregnant with DC2 2 years ago. Put it down to potential hormones etc.
Dimpling is still there and have had random pain symptoms as well as mastitis three times in that breast and LO seems to dislike feeding from it.

Visited doctors last week. GP said she couldn’t feel any lump but would get partner GP to look at it. Had that appointment this morning. She also couldn’t feel any lump and said she wasn’t concerned as it may be scar tissue from mastitis (which occurred after I first noticed this). She couldn’t give me a definitive explanation for the change or any reason for it to be simple/puckering when I move.

I said I wasn’t happy to have no idea what’s going on and not understand why this is there. There has been the story in the news recently of the lady who had no signs but a dimple under her breast (the same as me) and when I mentioned this she rolled her eyes and said she would refer me to breast clinic as I was being insistent.

Am I wasting people’s time? I’m feeling far more paranoid after discovering my DF has cancer and has done for the last few years.

I read of a young mother whose LO refused to feed from one breast. She couldn't find a doctor to take her seriously, and was later found to have BC. Please don't ever think you're wasting anyone's time.

Didn’t want to start a new thread so am posting on this one again.

I had my breast clinic appointment this morning. No two week wait for me as apparently, being under thirty makes me low priority.

They’d lost my notes so ended up sitting around waiting for nearly an hour for them to track them down. Went in and explained to consultant everything and she examined and had a feel etc. Said she could see the dent whilst I was lying down but again couldn’t feel anything untoward. Great. Said she wanted me to have an ultrasound, which I was expecting from my research on what happens at the appointments etc.

But, not today. I’m being referred, once again, and been told that there’s a “few weeks” wait. They won’t mammogram because of my age and breastfeeding. So, I now have another few weeks of waiting and wondering and anxiety. I feel frustrated because I really thought I’d get answers today... at least something.

I’m sure I should probably see it as a good sign that there’s nothing to worry about as otherwise they’d be hurrying things through but nobody can give me much of an explanation and I feel lost. If there does turn out to be something going on, it will have been months from first seeing the doctor to even getting that information. After I ignored it for so long myself.

Feeling a bit ranty and sad.

I wish dr google would give me an answer to “why do I have a dent in my boob” that isn’t cancer related.

Op it's good proper breast person had a look and feel. She is specialist so I wouldn't worry to much. I have two referrals, one to breast and one to lump neck. I have been scanned, examined and processed through breast already but neck had clerical error and not even had appointment through yet. Like you it will be months since first doc felt lump by the time I see anyone!!

Anyway harder done than said but consultant would have fast tracked you if she had seen anything alarming.

@DuckAndPancakes OP what happened here? As I’m going thru the same thing at the moment :(

TeddyFaces · 25/09/2023 16:29

You were quite right to insist op.
You can't be too careful when it comes to breast care.
I hope all is well and it turns out to be nothing to worry about.
