To worry that I'm going to get sick?

I had a job lot of old courgettes in the fridge, a bit wrinkly. One was actually mouldy and slimy - I threw that one out. The rest just past their best with darker, crinkled skins but firm flesh inside that was still cream/white. I cut away the worst bits and cooked a curry with them. Then I got paranoid after one bit felt too soggy and googled and the internet is full of courgette food poisoning horror stories.
I have a six month old. I cannot get sick!
I wouldn't have normally thought anything of using them and I hate food waste. Have I made a massive mistake?

I always use them way past the 'best before' date and they have never made me ill. I'm sure you will be fine

I always use vegetables past the best before date. Anything slimy gets thrown out, everything else gets eaten.

Vegetables have a best before date? Not if you buy them loose. I think it's quite normal to work out if they're edible or not just by looks/smell.

In case anyone googles in a panic and this comes up, I was fine. Trust your nose!

I find that hard to believe somehow. Especially since I just checked.

I just checked too and yes there are.

Why so horrible?

Stop worrying. If you get sick, you get sick. Life will go on.
