To think Premier Inn Rooms are too Hot?

crunchymint · 27/02/2018 09:44

I really like Premier Inn but have stopped booking rooms there as there rooms are always so hot. They have no opening windows and the lowest temperature the temperature control goes to in the room, is too hot to sleep in. Anyone else find this?

I don't understand why hotels don't let you change the temperature when it's so obvious that people's preferences vary so much.

I love Premier Inns because they are warm enough - I hate being cold.

At the moment at home I have the heating come on just before going to bed, once in the night and then just before I get up. So the house is ideally around 18-20 all through the night. Plus I have a 9 tog duvet, warm pjs, a top sheet and blanket.

But I'm very aware this isn't everyone's preference so an option to turn the heater on/off and open/close a window seems such a sensible way to ensure everyone gets their good night's sleep.

My experience at Travelodge was that they simply didn't know how to. The air con was a mystery.

I stay at Holiday Inn Express. You can switch the heater off completely if you wish, and open the window. And eat all you please at the breakfast buffet. I like their room lighting too, and the blue night light in the bathroom.

liz70 · 27/02/2018 17:34

Meant to say the room heaters are fully adjustable with a slide switch too, obviously.

lostherenow · 27/02/2018 17:41

Yes, we have stayed at 3 different ones in the SE and all have the same problem. Once it got so bad I nearly went to sleep in the car, I was that desperate as I had to sleep to drive the next day. Miserable places and we wot stay there again. To be fair though, the first place they eventually gave us a full refund.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/02/2018 18:01

We stayed at the premier inn manchester before a flight in the summer.

Worst night's sleep ever. Really hot room and the thickest noisiest duvets ever. Every time someone turned over in bed it woke me up again.

crunchymint · 27/02/2018 18:08

I can use air con fine in other places.
I actually prefer Premier Inn to other hotels of this price, but sadly have given up on them. Being able to sleep is pretty basic. And I can't if it is 19 degrees plus heat.

It must vary from hotel to hotel. We stay there a lot, set the ac to 18 degrees and have never had a problem.

crunchymint · 27/02/2018 18:14

18 degrees is too hot to sleep.

I've never had the problem of them being too cold. All the ones I have stayed in have temperature controls for the room.

minimonkey11 · 27/02/2018 18:19

I have to stay in PI for work and they are boiling hot in the night. But we (as a family of 4) stayed in county hall PI london this half term and the window opened so we could cool it down.

Whiterabbitears · 27/02/2018 18:47

I hate this too. I find at a Premier Inn I wake up really dehydrated with a headache. Last weekend I stayed at a Travelodge and it was much better. We could open two windows, we had a fan and heater you could switch on or off. I prefer this because I need fresh air and a cool room, I hate feeling hot, it makes me a bit panicky. I don't think its healthy to not be able to access fresh air at all.

Gwenhwyfar · 27/02/2018 20:25

I find most hotels too cold so maybe Premier Inn is the place for me.
I stayed in one once and didn't notice it was warm.
On the other hand I stayed in an IBIS that had air con in April because it had heating during what it considered winter and aircon the rest of the time regardless of the temperature. When I asked to borrow a heater they wanted it back after a few hours. Never again.

Catinthebath · 27/02/2018 20:27

Agree they are warm but love the beds. Quite like the purple light too
And the breakfast is very good.

Norugratsatall · 27/02/2018 21:24

You see, I find most hotels far too hot but strangely have never had this experience with Premier Inn! Always found them blissfully cool.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 27/02/2018 22:16

Premier Inns are my budget hotel of choice (and trust me, I have seen the inside of a lot of them).

Free Wifi, decent breakfasts, good locations, reliably clean... much better than a Travelodge

crunchymint · 27/02/2018 22:26

I agree they are the best chain of budget hotels, but that is no good if it is too hot to sleep.

I remember being at St Paul’s club quarters in November. There was a heat wave. I kept trying to turn temp down and it kept going higher and higher. It got to 34 with me trying to get it cooler.

Spoke to reception and they said 'it’s November now it’s a heater you can’t get cold air'. Hotel was fully booked only thing the could offer was getting maintenance to unscrew the windows for me.

All I got then were the bells, the bells of St Paul’s!

Hello1290 · 27/02/2018 23:23

I've never found them too hot if anything slightly cold and we've stayed in a few different ones - love them especially the beds.

crunchymint · 27/02/2018 23:25

Slightly cold! The lowest the room temperature can go is 18 degrees. What temperature do you like rooms to be?

OP posts:
megletthesecond · 27/02/2018 23:30

That's why I love PI.
My room is currently over 80. And I'm in thermals with a winter duvet. I'm cosy but not hot.

crunchymint · 27/02/2018 23:36

That is insanely hot

TheCatsMother44 · 27/02/2018 23:50

I find holiday inn's are far worse. It's like there's no air in the rooms!

That is interesting.
Just wish they would have air con, then there would be no issue at all.
