To be wondering how much it must suck to give birth vaginally to twins?

iv had two children vaginally with just gas and air.

I am just watching Sundays call the midwife and this poor woman is having to dilate and crown twice (not from scratch i know but still)

Any mothers of twins able to confirm my thinking that this would be seriously sore? Obviously with two fab little bundles at the end of course that would make it all worth while!

Im a twin and my husband is a twin... hats off to my mother in law and mam! My sister and i were teeny 2 and 3 pounders but my husband and h8s bro were 6 and 7 pounds! Quite relieved ive so far had two single births... i want number 3 but nervous as my dad is also a triplet...

delivered DTs vaginally, no pain relief, quick labour, dilate once then DT1 born, position of DT2 checked 15 mins later DT2 born, then the placentas, was much easier than either of the singleton births.
They were small though, 6.12 and 4.14.

I had my DTs vaginally 3 months ago. No more difficult than my two singletons but the Labour was longer and more tiring. I loved pushing out DT2! I was so high from having DT1 it barely hurt at all and it only took a couple of minutes. Obvs I was lucky but I loved giving birth to them so much and would love do it again. I think I have enough children now though. Grin

@Lime123 don’t worry, it is so much easier giving birth to twins than being pg with twins, you will boss it.

A woman at work had one twin vaginally and the other by caesarean. Another woman asked which was born first Grin

I had my twins vaginally with no pain relief. It was fine. The second twin was a breeze. And crowning for a 5lb 10 and then a 6lb baby 8 minutes later was easier than for their 9lb 10 brother 6years later

I can't imagine that that bit would be the worst tbh (even though I don't have dt's!)

With all three of my births it was the labouring which hurt/exhausted me. It was amazing being told to push and I didn't mind the pain at all by then as I knew it was nearly over...personally I would rather push out five babies in a row than go through another long intense labour!

I had an epidural and then a spinal block so no, not painful Grin. It was tiring though. I kept passing out between contractions and I had a cold and had lost my voice, so I had to wait for someone to notice, then they gave me oxygen and it was a bit easier. I mean it was OK though, you don't expect it to be a lot of fun.

One of the things about a twin pregnancy is that your expectations about the birth tend to get managed down pretty quickly. I knew it was likely to be an instrumental delivery with syntocin induction for number 2 at least, and the chances of a CS were fairly high. I was pretty clear with the OB that I only wanted to try vaginally if they were pretty certain that I wouldn't end up with a c section for number 2. In the end they had to reposition her pretty firmly which I guess would have hurt but as I say I had a spinal block. My OB said two brilliant things beforehand: that she wanted if possible to give me a vaginal birth, as she knew we didn't have any help at home and it would make it far easier in the early days with the kids, and also that she believed that no woman should have to experience pain during childbirth if they didn't want to.

Shoppingwithmother..... Ouch, definitely not the case.
Well done all these awesome twin mums

Gunpowder · 27/02/2018 12:25

Lalliella Grin people ask ALL the time if my twins are identical, even when they know they are boy/girl.

FancyNewBeesly · 27/02/2018 12:33

If you have two placentas, you’re not supposed to deliver either until both babies are out because they can fuse together. That means the first baby’s cord is still hanging out of your vagina and the second baby can cause issues if they compress the cord.

I know a twin Mum whose twins were born one week apart - madness.

Mine arrived by Emcs so I couldn’t tell you.

Also why do people think twins are automatically smaller? It’s just that most are born earlier. I only know one lady who went full term with twins and her twins were 8lb each.

Storminateapot · 27/02/2018 12:43

I did and I do recall the shock of realising once I had twin 1 in my arms that I had to do it again. Twin 2 ended up deciding to come out feet first so he was yanked out in a scene reminiscent of All Creatures Great and Small. That hurt as it all happened really quickly so I only had gas & air. I wouldn't like to repeat the experience, let's put it that way Shock.

starlightafar · 27/02/2018 12:46

I don't care how much it hurts they should have a C section Blush
I was refused epidural because a mad woman wanted to naturally deliver twins and the pain team were with her.
I still hate her now, after a 10 hour back to back labour Angry

Louiselouie0890 · 27/02/2018 12:48

I dont really believe this smaller babies are easier. They could be 6lb but have a huge head it's the head that pissing hurts the rest flies out lol

starlightafar · 27/02/2018 13:37

Bigger babies push themselves out tbh, less pushing to do
FK the crowning kills tho
