Minor ailments scheme

I'm skint and Dd desperately needs some antihistamine. I was hoping to use the minor ailments scheme just this once. Does anyone know which chemists participate in this service?

My local Lloyds pharmacy does. Can you ring local chemists and ask?

kimlo · 26/02/2018 15:54

I think if you google your local area it should give you a list, or your doctors should be able to tell you.

I know boots next to me does.

If you are able to use it don't feel that you shpuldn't or you need to justify it as a one off.

You can't claim antihistamines under the minor ailments scheme. Im a pharmacist in NI, it may differ depending on the country you're in.

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 26/02/2018 16:05

It lists hayfever and rashes in the list of ailments online so I presume antihistamines are part of it.
I've looked and can't find a list of participating chemists

www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Pharmacy/Pages/Commonconditions.aspx says hayfever and allergies could be covered

dementedpixie · 26/02/2018 16:08

Did you click on the link beta.nhs.uk/find-a-pharmacy/

TheMogget · 26/02/2018 16:28

My pharmacy actively encourages using it and didn't really give me an option just signed us up when I went for some eye drops for DD.

Klobuchar · 26/02/2018 16:29

Why would you be being unreasonable? This is what the scheme is for.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/02/2018 16:31

My pharmacy encourage it too, it's there for you to use it so do.

lemony7 · 26/02/2018 17:02

Antihistamines cost like 50p!

26mcjrfm · 26/02/2018 18:43

It is actively encouraged, so don't feel bad for using it! It's seen as being cost effective to the nhs as some people would go to GP for these ailments, which costs a lot more money. Every chemist is signed up here in NI although it may differ where you are, worth going to the nearest one and asking if it's convenient to you!
lemony7 some people don't have a spare 50p

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 26/02/2018 22:51

Children's antihistamines in liquid form aren't 50p. Cheapest bottle is £4 which I bought using a Clubcard voucher I found in my purse as I have no money till Friday. Unfortunately, I found out that no chemist near me is part of the scheme. Typical.

Thanks for the helpful replies.
