Cadbury creme egg

starlightafar · 26/02/2018 11:18

Just bought one as a treat.
Urrrgh, one bit and it's in the bin, the chocolate was DISGUSTING.
Tasted like cheap supermarket own brand minging chocolate. No way was it dairy milk.
I'm gutted. First roses have been ruined. Now crème eggs. They are vile.
Do not buy or you will be disappointed. I'm not even getting my kids one.

Thorntons also used to be something special, bespoke, and very expensive as a treat. It is mass produced crap now.

I haven't had any Cadbury for a year now. It's lost it's creaminess and just tastes like sugar.

Lidl whole nut chocolate on the other hand is amazing!!

demirose87 · 26/02/2018 13:38

I hate Thorntons now. It just tastes of fat and sugar and not chocolatey. Still love Guylian though but agree they are different now. The praline bit in the middle is softer and cheaper quality

beepthemeep · 26/02/2018 13:41

I've taken to spunking the cash on imports - whittakers chocolate from NZ is amazing.

But I guess that's hardly environmentally sound either!

MargoLovebutter · 26/02/2018 13:43

venys yes agree, Guylian are also disgusting now. They just taste of fat. I don't get any chocolate flavour at all.

daisychain01 · 26/02/2018 13:44

Green and Blacks.

Nothing else is worth getting fat for.

FairiesVsPixies · 26/02/2018 13:45

Cadbury's chocolate used to be my favourite, but it's horrible now and I haven't bought any for ages.
They must have seen their sales drop because most people think it's rank now. Mr Cadbury must be turning in his grave Sad

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 26/02/2018 13:49

I'll be giving this a go:

agree re Cadbury's though - I'd gladly pay a lot more for the real deal, chocolate is supposed to be a treat!

beepthemeep · 26/02/2018 13:58

Green & Blacks is owned by Cadbury/Mondelez now :(

Thymeout · 26/02/2018 13:58

Agree about Whittaker's chocolate. My DIL is a Kiwi and always used to bring me back NZ Cadbury's which tasted better than ours with interesting fillings we don't get. This time she brought me Whittaker's and it's fantastic. Slightly darker than ordinary milk, really chocolatey and not too sweet. There was a Rocky Road and one with chewy berry gum-type bits which was delicious.

There's nothing anything like it here.

nicentoasty · 26/02/2018 14:29

I miss the old Cadbury's Creme Eggs. They used to be my favourite chocolate in the world and now they're just grim. Sad

If I'm too lazy to make my own, is anywhere else selling a replica that tastes like the real thing (ie what Creme Eggs used to taste like)? I seem to remember a few years ago someone saying that Aldi were doing their own version but I'm not sure if that is still the case?

There are cheaper supermarket-brand versions of Mars Bars etc so I'm hoping someone will make their own version of Creme Eggs (but with nice chocolate).

Where do you get your Whitaker’s chocolate???!!!
I’m a kiwi and love it, but have to wait for my family to bring it over when they visit.

Afternoon · 26/02/2018 14:41

I still like Creme eggs Blush

starlightafar · 26/02/2018 14:44

Afternoon
You are indeed very strange.
I do like Ritter.

I bought one around this time last year, that was my last ever. Horrible.

beepthemeep · 26/02/2018 14:49

Online sadly for the whittakers - it's about £6.50 a bar and £3 for postage. But for the white chocolate lemon fizz and the milk/vanilla chocolate jelly tip, it's so worth it. I'm due to have my DC2 in early April and I've already put in my request for DP to bring a bar of each!! Grin

Far more sophisticated flavours also available!!

Many big Tesco stores will also have an imports section where you can get antipodean Cadbury chocolate - it's a whole different world from the shit we get here these days.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 26/02/2018 14:50

Probably all those finger nails that's been digging into them to find the white ones 😷

beepthemeep · 26/02/2018 14:50

The other good thing is, at that price, I do tend to make it last by eating it slowly, instead of shovelling it down my fat face in one evening!!

mirime · 26/02/2018 15:52

Pretty much avoid Cadbury's now. Switched to Lindt instead. But generally I just eat less chocolate.

Quaza · 26/02/2018 16:02

YANBU !

I’m almost glad they are horrible though as it means I am not tempted to eat them. 🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚

Spacebat · 26/02/2018 18:20

beepthemeep
Thanks! Love jellytip. Expensive, but maybe ok for an occasional treat :)

ScreamingValenta · 26/02/2018 18:23

I try to see the bright side - at least I'm no longer tempted to break my diet with one Grin. I bought one last year and couldn't finish it - it just tasted really sickly.

chipsandgin · 26/02/2018 18:25

Agree it is foul now, waxy tasteless American crap. I can't believe Kraft care so little about their market and so much about their profits that they would change it from dairy milk to the tasteless shit it is now - but they do clearly.

I complained the first year they did it (properly annoyed, possibly over-invested!!), they didn't even bother replying.

DropZoneOne · 26/02/2018 18:30

They changed the recipe a few years ago and claimed Creme Eggs had never been made from Dairy Milk, just "Cadbury chocolate. I stopped buying at that point.

Since then I swear the Dairy Milk recipe has changed too. It's more greasy and doesn't melt in the mouth the way it used to.

YearOfYouRemember · 26/02/2018 18:30

Five eggs in a box is also wrong.

The PP who asked where you can buy white chocolate ones - you can't really as they are hidden.
